Adaptation Fund Board Accredits New Implementing Entities
16 September 2011: The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) took a number of decisions at its 15th meeting, including a decision to increase the number of National Implementing Entities to six with the accreditation of the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) of Belize as a National Implementing Entity (NIE) and the African Development Bank as a Multilateral Implementing Entity (MIE).
The AFB discussed approaches to help facilitate use of the direct access facility, including workshops like the one that took place on 5-6 September 2011, in Mbour, Senegal and the one planned for Panama in November 2011. On projects, the AFB approved grant funding for Mauritius valued at US$9.12 million, to protect coastal ecosystems and community features through the construction of coastal protection, planting of mangroves, establishment of an early warning system and policy actions. The current amount of funds in the Adaptation Fund is US$164 million, which is expected to increase to US$353 million by the end of 2012. The next AFB meeting will take place in Durban, South Africa from 12-14 December 2011, with a civil society dialogue planned for 11 December 2011. [AFB Press Release]
