4th International Conference on Estuaries and Coasts Focuses on Water in an Era of Change

23 October 2012: The 4th International Conference on Estuaries and Coasts (ICEC-2012) focused on the theme "water in an era of change." The Conference was organized by the the Water Resources University of Hanoi, Viet Nam, and sponsored by the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS), the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), and the International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation (IRTCES).

The conference, attended by 200 participants, took place in Hanoi, Viet Nam, from 8-11 October 2012. The conference included sessions on: coastal and estuaries hydrodynamics; environmental and ecological hydraulics, water resources and hydrology; coastal structures, coastal hazards, research technologies for estuaries engineering; and estuaries and coastal management, and climate change.

Keynote presentations addressed: the history of river basin management in Japan; beach water quality forecasts for Hong Kong; the Mekong River delta, challenges and solutions in terms of climate change and sea-level rise; tsunami disasters; the Pearl River estuary; and climate change impacts on the hydrological cycle, water management and engineering.
