UNGA Thematic Debate on Human Security
The UN General Assembly (UNGA) Thematic Debate on Human Security will address the theme ‘Responding to the opportunities and challenges of the 21st Century: Human Security and the post-2015 development agenda,' and will provide Member States with an opportunity to discuss the UN Secretary-General's third report on human security (A/68/685), which illustrates the potential of a human security approach to overcome obstacles to sustainable development, reduce the likelihood of conflicts and provide a life of dignity for all. The event will also consider how human security might be included in the post-2015 agenda. The debate will include an opening session, an interactive panel discussion and a closing session. It will: assess the perspective of national planning processes towards environmental sustainability, inclusive economic development, inclusive social development and peace and security; and consider human security experiences. The event will also focus on: the causal processes of climate change and its impact on people and communities; and disparities and inequalities, with a particular focus on women in situations of vulnerability.
