Agenda items include: operation of the Antarctic Treaty System (reports by Parties, Observers and Experts; general matters; matters related to the Secretariat; multi-year strategic work plan; report of the Committee for Environmental Protection; liability; safety and operations in Antarctica; tourism and non-governmental activities; inspections under the Antarctic Treaty and the Environment Protocol; science issues, scientific cooperation and facilitation; implications of climate change for management of the Antarctic Treaty Area; education issues; exchange of Information; and biological prospecting in Antarctica.

At the close of the Sixth Session of the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Open Working Group (OWG 6) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Co-Chairs outlined options for the next phase of the process. The dates of a further set of formal OWG meetings were finalized at the conclusion of OWG 7. They will take place on: 3-5 March (OWG 9), 31 March - 4 April (OWG 10), 5-9 May (OWG 11), 16-20 June (OWG 12) and 14-18 July 2014 (OWG 13).

This meeting will bring together approximately 500 participants to discuss transboundary water management in a changing climate. The meeting will include workshops led by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Potential Conflict – Cooperation Potential (PCCP) programme and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Secretariat for the International Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention), which will address the place of water in the design of the post-2015 development agenda.
