The Future of Food Security and Climate Change in Viet Nam, Malawi and Zambia

This online discussion, titled 'The Future of Food Security and Climate Change in Viet Nam, Malawi and Zambia: scenarios, outlooks and challenges in the next 30 years,' is being convened by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Global Forum on Food Security and Nutrition (FSN), to explore the relationships between climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation and food security in Viet Nam, Malawi and Zambia. The discussion aims at exploring the current, foreseeable and likely relationships between climate change adaptation, climate change mitigation and food security in the three countries, and has been set up by FAO's Economics and Policy Innovations for Climate-Smart Agriculture (EPIC) programme in collaboration with the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) and with support from the European Commission.

Seventh World Urban Forum

The seventh session of the World Urban Forum (WUF) will be held in Medellin, Colombia, on the theme ‘Urban equity in development – Cities for life'. WUF 7 will include high-level dialogues on equity in urban development law; urban planning and design for social cohesion; basic services--local businesses for equitable cities; innovative financing instruments for local authorities; raising standards or urban resilience; and a safe city as a just and equitable city. It will also feature special sessions, round tables and business, gender and youth assemblies. WUF is an international forum exchanging views and experiences on urban challenges and opportunities. Participants include governments, international organisations, NGOs and other stakeholders. The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) convenes the WUF every two years.

12th Session of IPCC WG III and 39th Session of IPCC

The 12th session of Working Group III (WG III) and the 39th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 39) will convene in April 2014 to approve and accept the contribution of WG III to the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). WG III focuses on mitigation of climate change. WG III will meet from 7-11 April, and IPCC 39 will meet on 13 April to discuss programme and budget, with a day off on 12 April.

ICAO States' Action Plan Seminar for the South American Region

The ICAO States' Action Plan Seminar for the South American (SAM) region will provide national action plan focal points with information on the development and update of States' action plans, with a focus on data collection and mitigation measures undertaken by States. This event is reserved for national action plan focal points only, which have been nominated by their respective State.

FCPF Carbon Fund Ninth Meeting (CF9)

The meeting of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) Carbon Fund will review funding proposals from Chile, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, and the Republic of the Congo. The meeting will also consider General Conditions of a future Emission Reductions Payment Agreement (ERPA) and review the Pricing Approach.

Towards a CMS Programme of Work on Climate Change

This workshop will be convened by the Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Conference of the Parties (COP) appointed Councilor for Climate Change, Colin Galbraith, in collaboration with the CMS Secretariat and Costa Rica's Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications (MINAET), and with the support of Germany and Monaco. The goal of the workshop, pursuant to CMS COP Resolution 10.19, is to prepare a CMS Programme of Work on climate change and migratory species, through opportunities to share experiences and best practices, with regards to the impact of climate change on migratory species. The workshop will also assist Parties in developing national guidelines on measures to assist migratory species to adapt to climate change. The results of the workshop will be delivered to the Scientific Council and the eleventh meeting of the CMS COP (CMS COP11), as well as to the relevant bodies of other institutions including the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). National Focal Points (NFPs) are invited to nominate an expert on climate change to participate in this workshop, by 1 March 2014.
