The Small Scale Working Group of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) will hold its 41st meeting to consider matters relating to small scale CDM project activities, including proposals for new baseline and monitoring methodologies for CDM small scale project activities and the efficient and effective operation of the CDM.

The UN Institute for Training and Research's (UNITAR) Local Development Programme and the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), with support from Chile's Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MINVU), are organizing this Forum to help build an international platform to exchange knowledge and best practices in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and improving the resilience of cities in Latin America. The Forum also will discuss the development of action plans for implementation and local cooperation, using lessons learned from Japan, Chile, and other Latin American countries.

Launched by the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD) in 2003, the triennial Mesoamerican Congress of Protected Areas brings together experts from Mexico and the eight Central American Integration System (SICA) countries (Belize, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama) and interested regional and international actors to dialogue, share experiences and propose initiatives involving protected areas, including marine protected areas, and their role in sustainable development. The IV Congress, organized by Costa Rica's National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) with CCAD support, is expected to discuss, inter alia: governance; research within protected areas and access to biodiversity; protected areas and climate change; protected areas as social and economic instruments; and regional cooperation.

The Seventh Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (LACF) will discuss prospects for carbon projects in Latin America. The Forum is co-organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), the World Bank, the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
