Third Mediterranean Forest Week

The third Mediterranean Forest Week is being organized by the Governments of Algeria, France, Germany, Tunisia and Turkey along with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the Secretariat of the Committee on Mediterranean Forestry Questions, l'Association Internationale Forêts Méditerranéennes (AIFM), Centre Technique Forestier Tropical (CTFT), The European Forest Institute (EFIMED), the Mediterranean Forests Model Network (MFMN), and Plan Bleu. The Week will be convened under the theme, "Mediterranean forests for sustainable development of territories: what strategies of mitigation and adaptation to global change". It will focus on strengthening links between the scientific community and other stakeholders working in, or reliant upon, Mediterranean Forests examining both the contribution of Mediterranean forests to economic development and ecosystem services and the links between climate change and Mediterranean forests.

Ecuador AFOLU Greenhouse Gas Inventory Meeting

This meeting is organized by the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador, and will be facilitated by representatives of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN)/CD-REDD, the Mitigation of Climate Change in Agriculture (MICCA) Programme of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the UN-REDD Programme. The main objective of the meeting is to develop a joint effort to support capacity development on: implementing greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector; reporting under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); and setting of institutional arrangement and facilitating communication among relevant stakeholders in Ecuador.

LEG Training Workshop on Adaptation for Francophone LDCs

The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) training workshop on adaptation for Francophone least developed countries (LDCs) targets Francophone LDCs, comprising 17 parties to the UNFCCC.

GEF Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) in Cambodia

The Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) will host discussions on priority issues, development and implementation of Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects, and project integration in national development frameworks. The event will bring together focal points from the GEF, UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), with representatives from civil society, the GEF Secretariat, and the GEF Agencies. The event will include exercises on national capacity development (NCSA), results-based management, monitoring and evaluation, synergies in project design, as well as discussions on the GEF 2020 Strategy, the new GEF Fee Policy, and the Project Cycle harmonization. The registration deadline for civil society participants is 1 March 2013.

31st Meeting of the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee

The 31st meeting of the Joint Implementation Supervisory Committee (JISC 26) will take place in Bonn, Germany, to consider issues relating to the operation of Joint Implementation.

Asia-Pacific Training for Policymakers and Practitioners on Migration, Environment, Climate Change and Adaptation

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) will conduct a two-day training for Asia-Pacific policy makers and practitioners on the migration-environment nexus, in collaboration with the Foresight Programme (Government Office for Science, UK), the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The training aims to build the capacity of policy makers and practitioners to address migration challenges within climate change, development and environment policies and strategies. The training will also facilitate exchanges among policymakers and practitioners on climate change, environment and migration, with a particular focus on migration management policies. The training will be held back to back with the Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum.
