A joint inception and programme planning workshop will take place from 28-30 January 2013 for the Choiseul Integrated Climate Change Programme (CHICHAP), a pilot climate change programme for the Solomon Islands. The workshop will bring together over 100 participants from all sectors to learn more about this project, the partners involved as well as the results of the Choiseul climate change vulnerability and adaptation assessment. The workshop is intended to establish a steering committee and discuss the draft work programme. The workshop is hosted by Choiseul Provincial Government, with the assistance of several national ministries and development partners, including: the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Pacific-Australia Climate Change Science and Adaptation Planning Programme, The Nature Conservancy and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

The Earth System Governance Tokyo Conference will be jointly hosted by the UN University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS), the International Environmental Governance Architecture Research Group and the Tokyo Institute of Technology on behalf of the Earth System Governance Project. It will focus on the following five thematic areas: architecture of Earth system governance in the 21st century; climate governance architecture; the nexus between architecture and the other “As”; political dynamics on emerging agencies and architecture; and nuclear safety and post-disaster governance.

The Global Water Partnership – Southern Africa (GWP-SA) will be hosting this 4th Water, Climate and Development Programme for Africa (WACDEP) Technical Coordination Workshop in Pretoria, South Africa. The workshop aims at strengthening the exchange of lessons, knowledge sharing and technical coordination of WACDEP implementation among the GWP regions. Expected participants include GWP partners from all participating regions and key stakeholders from the water and climate change sector, namely the African Minsters' Council on Water (AMCOW), ministries, development banks and NGOs. The WACDEP programme is an initiative of AMCOW and involves the major African organizations with competencies in water.

This workshop, organized by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA), will discuss the steel, cement, refining, chemicals and other major energy-intensive sectors in the context of technology readiness, project development models and supportive policy regimes. The event, which is aimed at governments and companies active in the relevant sectors, will focus on eliciting key messages and policy conclusions. Recent work on carbon capture and storage (CCS) in industrial applications in different regions will also be considered. An afternoon working session will address the report to the fourth Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM4).

The Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Familiarization Seminar will review strategies, programs, policies and procedures of the Fifth GEF Replenishment (GEF-5) through interactive sessions drawing from a diversity of participant perspectives. The seminar is targeted for new GEF Agency personnel, new operational focal points and selected convention focal points.
