The Red Cross/Red Crescent Climate Centre, International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) will facilitate the Development and Climate Days on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the UNFCCC Secretariat will hold an Adaptation Practitioner's Day on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. The Development and Climate Days, which are celebrating their 10th anniversary, are organized under the theme of “innovative approaches, incisive dialogue on climate-smart development.” The Days will focus on learning-by-doing, featuring innovative dialogues between negotiators and policy makers, knowledge centres and practitioners. The Adaptation Practitioners Days will address the question “what is adaptation in practice” by sharing field experiences on concrete adaptation actions and lessons learned from over 10 years of adaptation financing under the UNFCCC Climate Change Funds, the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Fund and the Special Climate Change Fund. Forest Day 6 will take place on the sidelines of the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC. It seeks to inform UNFCCC's global agenda and forest stakeholders on ways to move forward with agreements on REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable use of forests and enhancement of carbon stock) reached at COP 17 in Durban, South Africa, to produce social and environmental benefits, good governance, long-term financing and the integration of forests into adaptation strategies on the ground. Forest Day is hosted by members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) and coordinated by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) on behalf of and in collaboration with other CPF members.

The third annual World Climate Summit, which is organized alongside the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), will bring together government leaders and representatives from the business and finance community to discuss issues related to a low-carbon economy and industrial, financial, political and innovation drivers to accelerate progress in mitigating and adapting to climate change. The meeting will focus specifically on Qatar and the Middle East. Topics of discussion include: public-private partnerships; renewable energy; agriculture and water; emission reductions; transportation; carbon pricing; and energy efficiency.
