The Rio Conventions Pavilion at Rio+20 is a collaborative outreach activity of the Secretariats of the Rio Conventions (UNFCCC, UNCCD and CBD), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), and 25 other international, national and local partners. It aims to promote and strengthen synergies between the Rio Conventions at implementation levels by providing a coordinated platform for awareness-raising and information-sharing about the linkages in science, policy and practice between biodiversity, climate change and combating desertification/land degradation.

The ICLEI World Congress 2012 takes place every three years and provides mayors, local government officials, representatives of international institutions and other partners opportunities for peer exchange, knowledge-sharing, capacity building and on-site visits and exhibits. ICLEI is supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR), the World Bank and others. Key themes to be addressed during the conference include: green urban economy; changing citizens, changing cities; greening events; and food security and how can biodiversity protection be integrated into municipal planning and decision making.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Overseas Development Institute, Norway's Climate and Pollution Agency, Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) are co-organizing an outreach workshop titled: “Managing the Risks of Climate Extremes and Disasters (SREX) in West Africa – What can we learn from the IPCC Special Report?” The two-day event is designed for policy makers, business leaders, academics and other stakeholders that are, have been, or may be impacted by climate extremes and disasters. The workshop seeks to promote discussion of the IPCC Special Report on "Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters for Advancing Climate Change Adaptation" (SREX). The event is part of a series of outreach events in Asia, Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean held from April-June 2012.

This event is part of a series of briefings that will seek to publicize the findings of the IPCC Special Report SREX to policy makers, practitioners and private sector audiences. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) prepared a Special Report titled "Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters for Advancing Climate Change Adaptation" (SREX), and launched the report's Summary for Policy Makers on 18 November 2011, with the full report released in hard copy in March 2012. To follow up on this report, the IPCC, the Overseas Development Institute, Norway's Climate and Pollution Agency, Norway's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network are working with local counterparts to support a programme of regional outreach events. This event in Dakar, Senegal, is invitation only. Speakers will include IPCC authors and invited guests from the West African region.

The Group of 20 (G20) Summit of the world's twenty major economies will take place in Los Cabos, Mexico, and will be the first such summit to occur in Latin America. In its G20 Presidency role during 2012, Mexico has prioritized: economic stability and structural reform for growth and employment; strengthening of financial systems and procurement of financial inclusion for economic growth; improving international financial architecture in an interconnected global economy; mitigating negative effects on price level and volatility of commodities, in particular those affecting food security; and promoting sustainable development with a focus on infrastructure, energy efficiency, green growth and financing the fight against climate change.

European Union Sustainable Energy Week events will take place across Europe. Events in Brussels will center around a high-level conference on the sustainable energy sector, which is expected to draw 4,000 participants from over 50 countries. Throughout the week other events will take place in parallel to draw attention to energy efficiency and sustainable energy themes.
