Resilient Cities 2012: 3rd Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation

Resilient Cities 2012: 3rd World Congress on Cities and Adaptation to Climate Change will focus on the following themes: urban risk and the issue of urban infrastructure as a key element in building resilient cities; resilient integrated urban design - how to optimally relate the water, food security and biodiversity sectors to build a resilient city; resilient urban renewable energy - how to ensure a clear link between the local renewables agenda and energy security and safety of urban areas; resilient urban logistics - a showcase of successful examples in ecomobility (moving people) and ecologistics (moving goods); and financing the resilient city - how climate financing for adaptation can be mobilized, leveraged and innovated for the local level. Resilient Cities 2012 will also host a session on global sustainable infrastructure finance in partnership with Global Energy Basel. Joan Clos, UN-HABITAT's Executive Director, is the patron of Resilient Cities 2011 and 2012.

World Congress on Water, Climate and Energy

This meeting is the inaugural meeting of the Congress on Water, Climate and Energy, and participants will explore the topics of resilient and sustainable cities with a focus on climate change adaptation and mitigation. The meeting will further examine how to incorporate climate change adaptation and uncertainty into the city vision and infrastructure, and will include solutions such as the role of regulation, technologies and smart networks. The meeting is organized by the International Water Association in partnership with the UN World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), and ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability.

UNITAR/UNEP e-Learning Course: Introduction to a Green Economy - Concepts, Principles and Applications

The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have developed this e-learning course to provide interested stakeholders with an introduction to the green economy concept. The course will be conducted from 14 May-22 June 2012, and is organized as an interactive, web-based course. Participants will learn about the green economy and the challenges and opportunities to advance low-carbon, resource-efficient and socially-inclusive development.

31st Session of the FAO Regional Conference for the Near East

The Food and Agriculture Organization's 31st Regional Conference for the Near East is focusing on food waste, climate change impacts and the creation of a regional trust fund for agricultural development. Climate change discussions are expected to focus on freshwater, fisheries, and forestry and land use management.

UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies May 2012

These meetings will include: 36th session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 36); the 36th session of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 36); the 17th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 17); the 15th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 15); and the first sessions of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action.
