The workshop will help increase awareness from a broad range of national development banks, local financial institutions and other key stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges of international climate finance. Co-organizers include the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE), the Agence Française de Developpement (AFD), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), KfW Bankengruppe, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Resources Institute (WRI), the World Federation of Development Finance Institutions (WFDFI), and the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP). It will provide for a platform to discuss: opportunities and challenges for the implementation of the Green Climate Fund; the role of treasuries and development banks in the coordination and leverage of international climate finance; experiences with international climate funds and market mechanisms; and recommendations to international fora and processes such as the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+ 20) and the Climate Change Conference in December 2012. The fourth African Carbon Forum is being held under the theme "Promoting Green and Low Carbon Development in Africa". Organized by the Nairobi Framework Partners, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UNEP Risoe Centre (URC), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank (WB) and the Africa Development Bank (AfDB), the Forum will host a series of plenary sessions, round tables and workshops to discuss topics related to the carbon market in Africa. Topics to be addressed include the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, plans of action and scaled-up mitigation actions, improving energy access in Africa and REDD+.

Natural Resources Canada is hosting the third meeting of the Heavy Oil Working Group, an initiative launched in April 2010 at the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA) Ministerial in Washington, DC. This Group brings together regional partners from the Americas to share experiences with heavy oil, update on the current state of technology, and discuss other areas of mutual interest, such as environmental and policy issues involved with heavy oil development.
