26_September 2016: The 71st UN General Assembly (UNGA) has concluded its general debate. In a closing address delivered on his behalf, UNGA President Peter Thomson welcomed Member States' work to implement the SDGs and their support for the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) and the UN Conference on SDG 14. He urged all governments to include the SDGs on their country's education curricula, stressing that youth are the ones who will inherit the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. continued...

26_September 2016: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has released the first full analysis of the use of carbon pricing in 34 OECD member countries and seven partner countries. The report titled, 'Effective Carbon Rates - Pricing CO2 through Taxes and Emissions Trading Systems,' considers a wide range of types of carbon prices, such as specific taxes on energy use, carbon taxes and tradable permits. In all, the 41 countries analyzed separately and in aggregate for the report account for 80% of global energy use and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. continued...

22_September 2016: The 18th Working Group (WG) meeting of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) convened to, inter alia, prepare for the High-Level Assembly (HLA) that will meet on the sidelines of the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the UNFCCC in Marrakesh, Morocco, in November 2016. Participants discussed the draft agenda for the HLA and possible elements for a draft communiqué, both of which will be revised and updated in advance of the HLA. continued...
