23 February 2011: During the inaugural session of the World Conference on Recreating South Asia: Democracy, Social Justice and Sustainable Development, being held in New Delhi, India, from 24-26 February, Ajay Chhibber, UN Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, highlighted that South Asia is at a critical turning point in its history, well placed to address inequalities and promote inclusive development to enable pro-poor growth and sustainable human development.
18 February 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a report presenting the results of the in-depth review of the fifth national communication (NC5) of New Zealand conducted by the expert review team (ERT).
16 February 2011: The World Bank and the Asian Disaster Reduction Center (ADRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Tokyo, Japan, to strengthen cooperation and regional partnerships for disaster risk reduction (DRR), and to enhance capacity building and knowledge-sharing in disaster prevention in the face of growing climate change pressures in East Asia and the Pacific.
11 February 2011: Opening a UN Security Council debate on the links between security and development at the UN Headquarters in New York, US, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for a greater focus on the climate change - security - development nexus.
The Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (CGE) aims to improve the process of preparation of national communications from non-Annex I parties.
This Symposium is organized by the GEO Secretariat and GEO Japan, with the support of Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). Its theme is “Towards the Establishment of Data Sharing and Data Integration in the Asia-Pacific Region,” and its objective is to promote the exchange of data and information through the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) and to find solutions for achieving societal benefits through GEOSS in the Asia-Pacific region. Technical sessions will be held on the following topics: Asian Water Cycle Initiative (AWCI); Asia-Pacific Biodiversity Observation Network (AP-BON); Forest Carbon Tracking (FCT); and Ocean Observation and Climate.
2 February 2011: The Board of the Adaptation Fund has released the report of its 12th meeting, which convened from 14-15 December 2010, in Cancun, Mexico. The meeting also included the third meetings of the Project and Programme Review Committee and the Ethics and Finance Committee of the Adaptation Fund Board.
26 January 2010: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and the Commonwealth Secretariat are exploring areas for strengthened environmental cooperation, in particular concerning climate change and sustainable development.
February 2011: Monique Barbut, CEO of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), has endorsed several GEF projects with a strong focus on energy efficiency. CEO endorsement is the final step in GEF project cycle approval.
