Ramsar, SPREP Participate in IUCN Mangrove Conservation Meetings [viewed]

Members of the PMI Steering Committee23 June 2011: The Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) participated in a meeting of the national coordinators of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Mangroves Ecosystem for Climate Change and Livelihoods (MESCAL) project, which followed up on progress of the project and sought to ensure that MESCAL activities fit with the new Regional Wetlands Action Plan for Pacific Islands.

UNDP Climate Change Adaptation Bulletin Highlights Projects in Africa, Asia and the Pacific [viewed]

UNDP23 June 2011: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released the sixth issue of its Climate Change Adaptation Bulletin, a quarterly publication that provides an overview of the technical assistance to countries at the national, sub-national and community-levels. The Bulletin reports on projects carried out in Liberia, Cape Verde, Bangladesh, Lao PDR, Samoa and Cambodia.

PIFS Announces First Country to Access the Pacific Environment Community Fund [viewed]

PIF17 June 2011: The Pacific Island Forum Secretariat (PIFS) has announced that the Government of Samoa is the first country to access the Pacific Environment Community (PEC) Fund. The PEC Fund is a commitment of US$66 million by the Government of Japan to support Forum Island Country (FIC) projects on the provision of solar power generation systems and sea water desalination plants.

Event: Policy Options to Support Climate-Induced Migration in Asia and the Pacific - Policy Dialogue [viewed]

This Policy Dialogue hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks to present the ADB technical assistance project on policy options to support climate-induced migration in Asia and the Pacific and its preliminary findings to a selected group of government representatives, local policy-makers, and scholars, as well as engage in a discussion and discuss recommendations on suggested policy options and financial mechanisms.

Republic of Korea Hosts First Korea-Pacific Islands Meeting [viewed]

2 June 2011: The first Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting convened under the theme, "Vision and Action: Cooperation Across the Ocean," to discuss ways for the Republic of Korea to expand development cooperation to Pacific Island Countries (PICs), as well as how the participating countries can work together in addressing climate change. It concluded with the adoption of a joint statement comprising major achievements of the meeting.

"Lessons For Future Action" Ends with Adoption of MOU between SPREP and 5C's [viewed]

26 May 2001: A conference on "Lessons for Future Action," which took place in Apia, Samoa, emphasized the urgency of climate change adaptation and future decisions affecting small island developing States (SIDS), given the threat of natural disasters. At the end of the Conference, the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Program (SPREP) and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (5C's) adopted a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
