Pacific Community Conference Focuses on Climate Change and Food Security [viewed]

8 November 2011: The seventh Conference of the Pacific Community convened in Noumea, New Caledonia, under the theme “Climate Change and Food Security – Managing the Risks for Sustainable Development,” from 7-8 November 2011. The Conference emphasized the importance of a paradigm shift in addressing climate change, not necessarily “doing different business, but rather doing business differently” to determine the level of acceptable risk and to prepare responses.

SPC Assesses Vulnerability of Tropical Fisheries to Climate Change [viewed]

7 November 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has released a publication titled “Vulnerability of Tropical Pacific Fisheries and Aquaculture to Climate Change," which includes contributions from 88 international scientists and fisheries specialists. The publication concludes that there will be winners and losers as a consequence of climate change in the Pacific region.

SPC, PIF Conduct Human Rights Training for Pacific Lawyers and Magistrates [viewed]

4 November 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community Regional Rights Resource Team (SPC/RRRT) in partnership with the Pacific Island Forum (PIF), conducted the 2011 Regional Human Rights Training Workshop for Lawyers and Magistrates, which focused on topics such as climate change and human rights, advocacy strategy and litigation on human rights.

2011 Human Development Report Focuses on Sustainability and Equity [viewed]

2 November 2011: The 2011 Human Development Report, titled "Sustainability and Equity: A Better Future for All,” highlights that equity and sustainability are inextricably linked. It notes that, if bold actions are not taken, environmental damage, including climate change effects, can slow or reverse development progress made in recent years.

Event: CIF PPCR Pilot Countries Meeting [viewed]

The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Pilot Program on Climate Resilience (PPCR) will hold a meeting to review progress and tasks ahead in implementing PPCR. The pilot programs and projects implemented under the PPCR are country-led, build on National Adaptation Programs of Action (NAPA) and other relevant country studies and strategies, and include countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and the South Pacific.

UNFCCC Publishes Submissions on REDD+ Methodological Guidance [viewed]

19 October 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published views (FCCC/SBSTA/2011/MISC.7) on methodological guidance for activities relating to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries (REDD+).

UNFCCC Publishes Report on New Zealand's Forest Management Reference Level [viewed]

UNFCCC18 October 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report (FCCC/TAR/2011/NZL) of the technical assessment of the forest management reference level (FRML) of New Zealand submitted in 2011. The Expert Review Team (ERT) has found New Zealand's FRML submission and supporting material informative and transparent.

SPC Announces Support for PICTs on DRR and Climate Change Adaptation [viewed]

30 September 2011: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has announced that, with financial support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), it is assisting Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs) in developping disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation responses.

GEF, UNCCD Publish Book on Sustainable Land Management Projects [viewed]
