ESCAP, UNEP and ADB Release Asia-Pacific Green Growth Report [viewed]

16 February 2012: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have released a report asserting that the challenges of resource constraints in the Asia-Pacific region are more serious than anywhere else, and proposing strategies for changing economic incentives to promote a green economy. The report was prepared as part of preparations for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

PACC Completes Training Programme in Cost Benefit Analysis [viewed]

6 February 2012: The Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) project, under the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), has completed its series of Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) workshops, with a third and final workshop held in Apia, Samoa, from 6-9 February 2012. The final workshop focused on the coastal sector.

AOSIS Chair Identifies Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation as Main Challenges [viewed]

12 February 2012: In a welcome statement marking her start as Chair of the Bureau of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), Ambassador Marlene Moses of Nauru identified the Alliance's main challenge over the next few years as working with the international community to achieve climate change mitigation and adaptation. Moses, Nauru's Permanent Representative to the UN, became the AOSIS Chair in January 2012, succeeding Ambassador Dessima Williams of Grenada.

SPC and Fiji Cooperate to Map Forest Cover [viewed]

8 February 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) has announced a collaboration with Fiji's Department of Forestry to increase capacity in the use of high resolution satellite images to map land and forest cover in the country. The programme will focus on classifying forest types in Drawa, a 6,400 hectare area of indigenous forest on Vanua Levu.

Triennial LDC Review Hears Vanuatu's Needs for Smooth Transition [viewed]

17 January 2012: The representative of Vanuatu to the UN urged the Committee for Development Policy (CDP) of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to ensure that, if the country is recommended for graduation from least developed country (LDC) status, it would continue to enjoy the preferential trade terms and other privileges provided to LDCs, in order not to derail the country from its sustainable development path.

Voting Process for CSO Representatives at FCPF Opens [viewed]
