Caribbean Experts Study Climate Change in Pacific Atoll Countries [viewed]

Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA)29 May 2012: Two Caribbean climate experts are visiting the central Pacific island of Kiribati to study and learn lessons from the climate challenges faced by atoll countries. The visit was arranged as part of the UN Development Programme's (UNDP) project on “South-South Cooperation between Pacific and Caribbean small island developing States (SIDS) on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management."

UN-HABITAT Workshop Focuses on Climate Change and Decentralization in Asia and Pacific [viewed]

ESCAP Commits to Improved Regional Energy Connectivity [viewed]

24 May 2012: Asia-Pacific governments attending the 68th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) called for inclusive and sustainable regional growth, with the aim of closing development gaps among and within Asia-Pacific countries, and setting economic progress on a greener pathway. In a series of resolutions, governments called for action to promote regional economic integration, trade and energy connectivity.

UNEP Reports on Climate Finance Activities in ACP Countries [viewed]

UNEP29 May 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risoe Centre has released the May issue of its Update on carbon finance activities undertaken under the “Capacity Building related to Multilateral Environmental Agreements in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Countries Project.” Activities highlighted include: the redefinition of the institutional framework for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) in Cuba; and an update on activities in the Pacific region.

UNDP Announces Winners of Asia Pacific Cartoon Contest on Climate Change [viewed]

Event: 68th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific [viewed]

The 68th session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will focus on a four-track strategy to promote shared, sustainable and inclusive growth in the region by promoting market integration, physical connectivity, financial cooperation and joint action to address common vulnerabilities arising from shrinking resources and climate threats. The session will comprise both a senior officials segment (17-19 May), and a ministerial segment (21-23 May). The ministerial segment will include: a roundtable on the "Growing Together: Economic Integration for an Inclusive and Sustainable Asia-Pacific Century;" and a high-level panel on "Steering inclusive development amidst global turbulence and volatility".
