SPREP Hosts Climate Resilience Project Workshop in Cook Islands [viewed]

Pacific Economic Ministers Release Action Plan [viewed]

PIFS5 July 2012: The 16th Forum Economic Ministers' Meeting (FEMM 16) discussed issues relating to economic governance in the Pacific, and concluded with the release of the Forum Economic Action Plan 2012. The Plan addresses, inter alia: implementing the Waiheke Declaration; economic empowerment of women; implementation of the Cairns Compact on Strengthening Development Coordination in the Pacific; progress by the Group of 20 (G20); and climate change resourcing.

UN Special Rapporteur Highlights Climate and Water Challenges in Tuvalu [viewed]

19 July 2012: Catarina de Albuquerque, UN Special Rapporteur on the right to safe drinking water, highlighted that the impacts of climate change are exacerbating water and sanitation challenges in Tuvalu. She recommend the Government of Tuvalu immediately adopt and implement its draft Water Act and its Sustainable and Integrated Water and Sanitation Policy.

UNFCCC Publishes Australia's GHG Inventory Review Report [viewed]

18 July 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2011 annual submission of Australia (FCCC/ARR/2011/AUS). The report finds that total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions increased by 30.4% between 1990 and 2009.

PACC Supports Launch of Solomon Islands' Climate Change Policy [viewed]

29 June 2012: The Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) project has provided funding and support for Solomon Islands' launch of its National Climate Change Policy 2012-2017. The Policy, launched on 29 June 2012, identifies the policy roles of different institutions, enhances coordination of climate change work both at the local and national levels, and provides opportunities for cooperation between the government and other non-state actors.
