Climate Finance Investment Facility Calls for Proposals from Asia-Pacific Region [viewed]

5 September 2012: The Climate Finance Innovation Facility (CFIF), managed by the Frankfurt School – UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Collaborating Centre for Climate and Sustainable Energy Finance, has launched its third Call for Proposals. CFIF invites applications from financial institutions based in Asia-Pacific developing countries, to be submitted by 30 September 2012.

Bhutan, UNDP-UNEP Hold Workshops on Green and Inclusive Development in Asia-Pacific [viewed]

9 August 2012: Bhutan hosted participants from eight Asia-Pacific countries in two high-level workshops addressing green and inclusive economics and development. In the keynote address, Bhutan's Minister of Labor and Human Resources, Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi, highlighted environmental resources as a critical asset for economic development and poverty reduction in developing countries.

SPC Convenes Training on Monitoring Adaptation of Coastal Fisheries [viewed]

SPC6 September 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), in collaboration with the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD), hosted a training course on monitoring adaptation of coastal fisheries to climate change during the first week of September, in Noumea, New Caledonia. The course was a component of the Australian Government-funded “Monitoring the vulnerability and adaptation of coastal fisheries to climate change” project.

Asia/Pacific CDM Regional Workshop Focuses on Standardized Baselines, PoA [viewed]

20 July 2012: The Third Workshop on Enhancing the Regional Distribution of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Projects in Asia and the Pacific focused on the issues of standardized baselines and the CDM Programme of Activities (PoA), with the aim of promoting more CDM projects in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), small island developing States (SIDS) and countries hosting fewer than ten registered projects.

Event: Pacific Regional Climate Change and Health Symposium [viewed]

Organized by the University of Fiji, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Fiji Ministry of Health, this meeting will provide international climate change and health experts the opportunity to exchange information and ideas and discuss adaptation strategies. The meeting's theme is "Improving health through adaptation – strengthening health systems to protect Pacific Island communities from the health impacts of climate change".

43rd Pacific Islands Forum Develops Leaders Communique [viewed]

PIFS30 August 2012: The 43rd Pacific Islands Forum convened in Rarotonga, the Cook Islands, from 28-30 August 2012, under the theme of “Large Oceans Island States – the Pacific Challenge.” Issues discussed at the meeting included the outcomes of the recent UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), the Oceanscape initiative, climate change, and radioactive contaminants in the Marshall Islands. The 43rd PIF Communique includes the key commitments of Pacific Leaders.

UNFCCC Publishes Australia's Views on a Framework for Various Approaches [viewed]

Australia, EU to Link Emissions Trading Systems [viewed]

28 August 2012: Greg Combet, Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, and Connie Hedegaard, EU Commissioner for Climate Action, have announced that the Australian emissions trade scheme and the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) will be fully linked by 2018.

PIFS27 August 2012: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) announced the outcomes of the 21st Smaller Island States (SIS) Leaders Meeting, held in Raratonga, the Cook Islands, on 27 August 2012. The meeting took decisions on the SIS Development Fund, financing for climate change, tourism and trade.

SPREP Announces Transition to Biodiesel [viewed]

SPREP17 August 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has announced it is transitioning to biodiesel in its fleet of vehicles. The fuel, a mix made from plant sources and diesel, was developed by the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (SROS).
