Event: Experts Meeting on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in Asia and Pacific [viewed]

This three-day international expert meeting, organized by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will focus on the challenges that climate change poses to education systems in the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting will set the stage for UNESCO's action in support of countries in the region for the remaining years of the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and beyond. The meeting will develop recommendations and a plan of action to promote education as an important means to enhance adaptation to climate change in the context of sustainable development in the countries of the region.

January 2014 Climate Finance Update [viewed]

The projects address, inter alia: climate innovation in the Caribbean; climate-friendly agriculture; meteorological services; adaptation of small-scale agriculture; clean bus leasing; livelihood diversification; and renewable energy.

UNISDR Workshop Discusses Strategy for Disaster and Climate Resilient Development in the Pacific [viewed]

UNISDR21 January 2014: The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) convened a workshop to develop a post-2015 Strategy for Disaster and Climate Resilient Development in the Pacific (SRDP). The new strategy aims to bring together the fields of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaption to increase the resilience of Pacific countries.

Event: Seventh GEOSS Asia-Pacific Symposium [viewed]

Bolivia Assumes Chair of G-77-China [viewed]

G77 and China8 January 2014: Bolivia took over from Fiji as Chair of the Group of 77 and China (G-77/China) during a special ceremony held at UN Headquarters in New York. Bolivian President Evo Morales attended the event, during which UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and President of the General Assembly (PGA) John Ashe urged the Group to work collectively towards reaching: the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); a unified and universal post-2015 development agenda, with poverty eradication as the overarching goal; and a new global climate agreement.

Event: Intersessional Meeting for 3rd International Conference on SIDS [viewed]

The intersessional meeting in preparation for the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) will take place from 21-25 April 2014, at UN Headquarters in New York, US, according to a draft decision approved in the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Second Committee on 11 December 2013 (A/C.2/68/L.67). The SIDS Conference is scheduled for 1-4 September 2014, in Apia, Samoa.
