Event: Joint Meeting of the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management and Pacific Climate Change Roundtable [viewed]

This Roundtable is co-organized by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP). It is organized around the theme 'Strengthening Resilience: An Integrated Regional Strategy for Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change for the Pacific'. This joint meeting will bring together actors in disaster risk management and climate change to discuss key issues, challenges and opportunities that can be taken into consideration in the formulation of an integrated regional strategy for disaster risk management and climate change, which is to be adopted by 2015, and which is to succeed the current separate frameworks: Pacific Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Management Framework for Action 2005–2015 and Pacific Islands Framework for Action on Climate Change 2006–2015.

UN-HABITAT Showcases City Resilience Profiling Programme [viewed]

Unhabitat27 May 2013: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) highlighted its City Resilience Profiling Programme (CRPP) during a side event titled 'Building Safer and Resilient Cities and Settlements,' held at the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Geneva, Switzerland. CRPP aims to develop a comprehensive, integrated urban management and planning approach to monitor city risk resilience, including to climate change and multi-hazard catastrophic events.

World Bank Highlights Little Green Data Book's Relevance to Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

World Bank5 June 2013: The World Bank has released the 2013 edition of the 'Little Green Data Book,' the Bank's annual compilation of environment data. The Book assesses development and environment using over 50 indicators, including adjusted net savings (ANS), which aims to foster innovative ways of understanding sustainable development at the macroeconomic level, and to complement gross domestic product (GDP) measuring; both of which are key aspects of the post-2015 agenda.

UNFCCC Releases SBSTA Documents for Bonn Session [viewed]

UNFCCC4 June 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a series of documents that will be discussed by the Subsidiary Body on Scientific and technical Advice (SBSTA) at its 38th session, taking place in Bonn, Germany. The documents relate to methodological issues related to the Kyoto Protocol, the new market-based mechanism, emissions from international transport, the UNFCCC reporting guidelines, high-carbon reservoirs, and a framework for various approaches.

Coral Triangle Initiative Provides Guidance on Local Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment [viewed]

World Bank Provides Guidance on Disaster Risk Management in East Asia and the Pacific [viewed]

World Bank3 June 2013: The World Bank has released a publication, titled 'Strong, Safe and Resilient: A Strategic Policy Guide for Disaster Risk Management in East Asia and the Pacific,' which notes that East Asia and the Pacific is the region most affected by disasters, experiencing both recurrent small-scale events as well as devastating large-scale catastrophes. The report calls on policy makers to invest in disaster preparedness to avoid undoing progress in poverty reduction and development.

World Bank Maps Carbon Pricing Initiatives, Recommends Gradual Development [viewed]

World Bank29 May 2013: The World Bank has released a report, titled 'Mapping Carbon Pricing Initiatives: Developments and Prospects,' which provides an overview of current and prospective carbon pricing initiatives at the international, regional, national and sub-national levels. The report recommends flexibility in carbon pricing, alignment with national priorities, a staged approach for the introduction of new initiatives, and carefully timing the construction of linkages between emissions trading schemes.

Busan Partnership Reviews Climate Public Expenditure in Asian and African Countries [viewed]

Event: Pacific Climate Change Roundtable 2013 [viewed]

The Pacific Climate Change Roundtable (PCCR) was established to coordinate climate change dialogue and networking in the region. PCCR also facilitates linking global and regional stakeholders with the national and community levels. It is expected to host over 100 participants from across the region and internationally and to focus on building resilience to climate change through collaboration. PCCR is coordinated by SPREP in partnership with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the University of the South Pacific (USP) with funding provided by Switzerland, the European Union Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA /SPC- PSIS) project, AusAID, the British Government and Germany's International Cooperation agency (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ). The Pacific Climate Change Roundtable will be held alongside the Pacific Meteorological Council (1-5 July) and before the Joint Meeting of the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management and the Pacific Climate Change Round Table (8-11 July 2013).

First SIDS DOCK Pacific Meeting Reviews Progress [viewed]

sidsdock9 May 2013: The first SIDS DOCK Pacific Regional Meeting reviewed the current work of the first phase of the SIDS DOCK Support Programme and discussed its next phase. SIDS DOCK is an initiative developed by small island developing States (SIDS) for SIDS to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, and contribute towards sustainable development with support from the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank.
