Global CO2 Concentrations Reach Record High [viewed]

noaa7 May 2015: Atmospheric CO2 concentrations reached a record global average in March 2015, underscoring the importance of reaching an effective and universal climate agreement in Paris in December 2015. According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), monthly global average CO2 concentrations surpassed 400 parts per million (ppm) in March 2015 for the first time since the administration began tracking atmospheric CO2.

Japan, US to Enhance Cooperation on Climate Change, Sustainable Energy [viewed]

us-japan28 April 2015: During a state visit by the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to the US, organized to honor the seven-decade partnership between the two countries, Prime Minister Abe and US President Barack Obama reaffirmed their countries' commitment to enhancing the bilateral partnership in a number of areas, including the environment and climate change, space and energy. The leaders announced the two countries would cooperate to address climate change and environmental degradation, and to deliver secure, affordable, sustainable and safe energy.

Major Economies Forum Discusses Expectations Ahead of Paris Conference [viewed]

MEF21 April 2015: The 21st meeting of the Leaders' Representatives of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate (MEF) brought together ministers and officials from 15 major economies, as well as from Maldives, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, the Marshall Islands, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Switzerland and Turkey. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the UNFCCC Secretariat and the UN Secretary-General's office, as well as the Co-Chairs of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP).

Arctic Council Meeting Concludes Canada's Chairmanship [viewed]

Arctic Council25 April 2015: The ninth Ministerial Meeting of the Arctic Council, which marked the end of Canada's Arctic Council chairmanship (2013-2015) and the start of the US chairmanship (2015-2017), brought together ministers of the eight Arctic States and leaders of the six Permanent Participant organizations of the Arctic Council. Ministers adopted the 2015 Iqaluit Declaration, which highlights the accomplishments of the past two years and sets the stage for the upcoming US chairmanship.

ECPA Energy Efficiency Working Group Concludes Technical Assistance Round [viewed]

UNFCCC's NAZCA Portal Features Over 500 City Actions [viewed]

nazca22 April 2015: To coincide with Earth Day, over 500 new city actions have been added to the Non-State Actor Zone for Climate Action (NAZCA) portal, which was launched at the UN Climate Change Conference in Lima, Peru, in December 2014. NAZCA, a UNFCCC-hosted website, showcases actions of non-state actors, including municipalities, regions and investors, and aims to help build momentum for a global climate agreement in Paris in December 2015. Currently, 400 cities, 71 subnational regions and 264 companies are taking 1514 climate-related actions listed on the NAZCA portal.
