UNFCCC29 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has circulated a submission to the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action (AWG LCA) from Australia, Canada, Japan, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Russian Federation, Ukraine and the US on various approaches, including opportunities for using markets, to enhance the cost-effectiveness of, and to promote, mitigation actions.

UNEP Releases Report on Thawing Permafrost, Warns of Increased GHG Emissions and Threats to Ecosystems [viewed]

UNEP27 November 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a report, titled “Policy Implications of Warming Permafrost,” which aims to highlight the potential hazards of carbon dioxide and methane emissions from warming permafrost. The report also underscores the impacts of decreasing permafrost to ecosystems, and recommends an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessment on permafrost.

GSEP Energy Management System Pilot Project Improves Company's Energy Performance by 15% [viewed]

UNFCCC Releases Report on National GHG Inventory Data for 1990-2010 [viewed]

UNFCCC16 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a report on national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory data for the period 1990-2010 for all 42 Annex I Parties (FCCC/SBI/2012/31). It highlights that total aggregate GHG emissions excluding land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) decreased by 8.9%, and including LULUCF decreased by 14.6%.

IEA Reports Sales of 1.2 Million Electric Vehicles, 2.5 Million Hybrid Vehicles in 2011 [viewed]

UNFCCC Releases Report on Domestic Action by Annex I Parties [viewed]

UNFCCC9 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a report on the implementation of domestic action by Parties included in Annex I to the Convention that are also Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, based on the information reported in their national communications (FCCC/SBSTA/2012/INF.9). The report is based on information contained in national communications from Parties and other sources for consideration by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice at its 37th session (SBSTA 37).

UNGA Convenes Informal Session on Hurricane Sandy [viewed]

9 November 2012: UN General Assembly (UNGA) President Vuk Jeremić convened an informal meeting of the Assembly to address issues arising from Hurricane Sandy. The session detailed the monies allocated for affected countries from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on countries to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
