G20 Urged to Address Development Issues [viewed]

G20 RUSSIA30 August 2013: In a letter to the Group of 20 (G20) ahead of its 2013 Leaders' Summit, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon calls on the Group to take leadership on issues of sustainability. He encourages the member countries to promote inclusive growth and job creation, while implementing a sustainable development agenda. The G20 will hold its annual summit in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on 5-6 September 2013.

UNU-EHS Report Analyzes Climate-Water-Security Nexus [viewed]

UNU-EHS2 September 2013: The UN University Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) released a report, titled ‘Climate Change, Water Conflicts and Human Security: Regional Assessment and Policy Guidelines for the Mediterranean, Middle East and Sahel,' which examines whether climate change undermines human security by intensifying water hazards, such as droughts, floods and water scarcity. The report also assesses vulnerability in relation to climate change-related hazards.

Event: Doha Carbon and Energy Forum 2013 [viewed]

After its first edition in 2010, the second chapter of the Doha Carbon and Energy Forum will also be jointly organized by Qatar Petroleum, Qatar Foundation and ExxonMobil under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser under the directive of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Sada Minister of Energy & Industry. The conference will be held at the Qatar National Convention Centre from 11-13 November 2013. DCEF 2013 will seek to reinforce its role as a leading platform for engaging experts in interactive workshop round table discussions of the following topics: carbon capture and storage, climate change, energy efficiency, and solar energy. Consideration of each topical area, during its workshop round table discussions, will examine the topic from the perspectives of research and technology development, industrial development and application, and policy and regulatory framework.
