UNEP Risø Working Paper Assesses Sustainable Development Impacts of NAMAs [viewed]

UNEP Risoe7 November 2013:  The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risø Centre has released a working paper titled 'Sustainable Development Impacts of NAMAs: An integrated approach to assessment of co-benefits based on experience with the CDM.' The paper assesses the sustainable development impacts of Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) by developing countries, and is part of UNEP Risø's 'Low Carbon Development' series.

Event: International Renewable Energy Jobs Conference [viewed]

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is organizing this event alongside the World Future Energy Summit (WFES). The conference will discuss how the renewables sector has become a significant employer with potential for creating millions more jobs worldwide in coming years. It will provide an opportunity for experts and policy makers to share knowledge, experience and best practices on renewable energy job creation. It will also look at trends and dynamics in renewable energy job creation and the policy and economic environment needed to maximize potential for job creation.

CIF Approves Forest Funding for Peru and Energy Access in Liberia [viewed]

CIF30 October 2013: The Climate Investment Fund (CIF) Sub-Committee Meetings concluded with endorsement of the final pilot country plan from Peru for $50 million under the Forest Investment Program (FIP), and the endorsement of Liberia's $50 million investment plan under the Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program in Low Income Countries (SREP), a targeted program of the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF). The FIP also approved $16.45 million to support forest and climate information gathering and systematization in Brazil.

IRENA25 October 2013: The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) held a workshop, titled 'Social Acceptance of Renewable Energy,' that aimed at improving social acceptance of, and dispelling misconceptions around, renewable energy. Participants at the workshop agreed to create a “coalition for action” to strengthen public opinion over renewables.
