General Assembly Elects President of 66th Session [viewed]

Amb. Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser of Qatar addresses the General Assembly following his election as President of the 66th session22 June 2011:  The UN General Assembly (UNGA) has elected by acclamation Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser (Qatar) to be its next President. He will succeed Joseph Deiss (Switzerland) when he takes over the presidency in mid-September 2011 as the 66th session of the Assembly begins.

UNDP Supports Solar-Powered Systems in Lebanon [viewed]

FAO Releases Report on Mega-Fires and Climate Change [viewed]

10 May 2011: At the International Wildland Fire Conference in Sun City, South Africa, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) released a preliminary report titled “Findings and Implications from a Coarse-Scale Global Assessment of Recent Selected Mega-Fires.” The report suggests that changing climate may be exacerbating the growing number of mega-fires and resulting in a positive feedback loop.
