ACP MEAs Newsletter Focuses on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction in SIDS [viewed]

29 June 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the EU have released the June issue of their newsletter on the African, Caribbean and Pacific Multilateral Environment Agreements (ACP MEAs) project. The newest newsletter is sub-titled "The Future of the Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction in Small Island Developing States."

UNEP-Risoe Launches Technology Transfer Publication Series [viewed]

Adaptation Fund Board Accredits National and Regional Implementing Entities [viewed]

Adaptation Fund27 June 2011: At its 14th meeting, held in Bonn, Germany on 22 June 2011, the Adaptation Fund Board approved US$17.4 million in grant funding and accredited the National Environment Fund of Benin as the fourth National Implementing Entity and the West African Development Bank as the first Regional Implementing Entity.

Event: Integrated Regional Workshop on Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change in the UN Development Assistance Framework Process (LAC) [viewed]

This workshop is being organized by the UN Development Group (UNDG) Task Team on Environmental Sustainability, Climate Change and Rio+20, in cooperation with the Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the Secretariat of the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR), the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), and the UN System Staff College (UNSSC). It will consider the linkages between climate change, environmental degradation and disasters, and explore opportunities for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction, environmental sustainability and climate change into country programming. It is one of three integrated regional workshops for UN country teams.

IDB Supports Lending for Green Projects in Latin America [viewed]

IDB23 June 2011: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will lend US$50 million to the Portuguese financial institution Banco Espirito Santo de Investimento SA (BESI), which will in turn lend towards infrastructure, renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Latin America.

World Bank, CIF Fund Climate Resilient Urban Improvements in the Caribbean [viewed]

World Bank23 June 2011: The World Bank Board of Directors has approved two projects in the Caribbean, amounting to US$47.12 million, to improve the safety of their buildings from the impacts of climate change and increase their public institutions' capacity to assess natural risks. The funding is from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR), which is geared toward vulnerable countries and small island developing States (SIDS).
