7 December 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has released a report that finds Central America may be one of the regions most adversely affected by climate change in socioeconomic terms.
3 December 2010: The elements for a regional agenda on water and climate change for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) were presented at a Dialogue for Water and Climate Change (D4WCC) side event held during the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 16), in Cancun, Mexico.
7 December 2010: A project coordinated by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Pacific Centre, with support from the regional UNDP Programme Caribbean Risk Management Initiative (CRMI), has produced a film titled “Looking South Across the Oceans: Promoting Cooperation Among Small Island Developing States” from the Caribbean and the Pacific.
4 December 2010: On the occasion of the Cancun Climate Change Conference, the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery of the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and Mexico's National Commission of Protected Areas organized a site visit to a community-based project in the protected area of Yum Balam, which is helping a Mayan indigenous community increase its resilience to climate change.
8 December 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has released a report titled “Economics of Climate Change in Latin America and the Caribbean,” which estimates losses of around 1% of annual GDP in the region's countries between 2010 and 2100 unless a global consensus is reached on mitigation actions.
8 December 2010: The Government of Denmark, the World Bank and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) to support island countries in scaling up their renewable energy efforts and shift to greater energy efficiency.
