KfW Launches Geothermal Facility for Latin America at COP 20 [viewed]

limacop208 December 2014: KfW Development Bank launched the Geothermal Development Facility (GDF) for Latin America on the margins of the Lima Climate Change Conference. The GDF, the first multi-donor climate initiative to promote geothermal resources on a continental scale, will provide at least US$75 million in grant-based risk mitigation instruments and US$1 billion in financing to geothermal projects in 10 Latin American countries.

Peruvian Environment Ministry and ICRAF Sign MoU [viewed]

World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)7 December 2014: The Peruvian Environment Ministry, represented by Minister Manuel Pulgar-Vida, and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), represented by Director-General Anthony Simons, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for inter-institutional cooperation. The MoU: builds on existing collaboration between the two institutions on themes such as land-use planning for low-carbon development, and climate change adaptation and mitigation; and is expected to spur an intensification of work in such areas as the detection and rehabilitation of degraded land.

UNGA Adopts Resolution on SD Financing Report [viewed]

unga698 December 2014: The 69th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) discussed and adopted a resolution on the ‘Report of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts on Sustainable Development Financing (ICESDF)' (A/69/L.32). By the resolution, the Assembly reaffirms that the ICESDF report, the Open Working Group (OWG) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Outcome Document and the UN Secretary-General's synthesis report are valuable inputs for the preparations for the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD).

The book, whose publication was led by the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), brings together research and case studies by 86 authors from 44 institutions on the tools, methods and pathways used to create sustainable multi-functional landscapes, particularly in the fight against climate change.

Scientists Call for Recognition of Biodiversity in Climate Negotiations [viewed]

cbd-iai5 December 2014: A declaration prepared by a group of scientists calls for better integration of biodiversity concerns into climate change politics and negotiations. Scientists and policymakers presented the declaration to Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, Peru's Environment Minister and president of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC. The declaration asks climate change policymakers to take biodiversity into account while also recognizing the role scientists must play in providing timely information to policymakers.
