GFDRR Calls for Strengthening Disaster Recovery Systems [viewed]

ICAO Dialogues Focus on Market-Based Mechanism for Aviation Emissions [viewed]

Icao1 May 2015: Through a multi-regional outreach effort carried out in April 2015, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) connected with 35o stakeholders from 79 countries to discuss market-based mechanisms (MBMs) as a means of mitigating carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from international aviation. This first round of Global Aviation Dialogues (GLADs) on MBMs, involved two-day sessions in five regions, where participants heard updates on ICAO's development of a global MBM scheme and offered feedback.

BRICS Environment Ministers Discuss Green Economy, Climate Change [viewed]

brics22 April 2015: The Environment Ministers of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) gathered for their first official meeting, to discuss green economy development and cooperation in tackling climate change. The Ministers highlighted that sustainable development should address in particular: poverty eradication; changing unsustainable and promoting sustainable patterns of consumption and production (SCP); protecting and managing the natural resource base of economic and social development; and addressing climate change.

CIAT, CCAFS Warn of Climate Change Impacts on Coffee Production [viewed]

ciat_ccafs4 May 2015: The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), under the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), has published a study, titled ‘Projected Shifts in Coffea arabica Suitability among Major Global Producing Regions Due to Climate Change.' The study focuses on how, by 2050, climate change will affect climatic suitability for Arabica coffee within current production regions.

12th Carbon Fund Meeting Considers Extension Beyond 2020 [viewed]

Forest Carbon1 May 2015: Participants at the 12th meeting of the Carbon Fund (CF12) considered, inter alia: the extension of the Fund's term beyond 2020; the 2016 budget proposal; and the Emission Reduction Programme Document (ER-PD) business process and Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) terms of reference (TOR). The meeting also provided an opportunity to share early ideas on ER-Programme Idea Notes (ER-PINs), including from Argentina, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, the Dominican Republic, Fiji, Guyana, Laos, Mozambique and Nicaragua.

UNFCCC Executive Secretary Calls for Greater Access to Climate Finance [viewed]

Christiana Figueres, UNFCCC Executive Secretary28 April 2015: In an analysis published on the Group of 7/Group of 20 (G7/G20) website, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres focuses on the role the G7 should play in financing the transition to a low-carbon global economy. Figueres calls on the G7 "to help orchestrate" the build-up of the US$100 billion in climate finance that the developed world has agreed to provide annually by 2020, and to contribute to the global framework that will "green capital at levels high enough to transform the economy."
