EcoMicro to Support Four Latin American Microfinance Institutions [viewed]

EcoMicro4 October 2012: EcoMicro, a technical assistance programme co-financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, announced it will help four microfinance institutions (MFIs) from Bolivia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru to develop "green" financial products that promote clean energy and energy efficiency, and reduce the vulnerability of their portfolios to climate change impacts.

ECLAC, GIZ to Implement Joint Programme on Low-Carbon Growth and Social Cohesion [viewed]

ECLAC3 October 2012: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the German International Development Agency (GIZ) have signed the implementing contract for a two-year, €4,725,000 cooperation programme on low-carbon economic growth and social cohesion in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), which was agreed by ECLAC and Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in November 2011.

The Seventh Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum (LACF) will discuss prospects for carbon projects in Latin America. DSD Report Examines Climate Change Adaptation in Grenada [viewed]

September 2012: The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) has released a report examining adaptation to climate change in sectors including water resources, coastal ecosystems and renewable energy. While this report focuses on Grenada, the broader project, “Integrating Climate Change into National Sustainable Development Strategies in Latin America and the Caribbean,” addresses primary concerns of small island developing States (SIDS).

Secretary-General Assures CARICOM of Better Cooperation, Requests Engagement on SDGs and Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

27 September 2012: During a meeting on the sidelines of the opening of the UN General Assembly session, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon assured leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) of improved cooperation between the UN and CARICOM regarding trade, debt, climate change and transnational organized crime, among other issues. He also pledged to continue to raise the issue of the vulnerability of Caribbean island nations to the international financial crisis with the Group of Eight (G8) and Group of 20 (G20) countries.

Event: ECLAC Technical Advisory Committee Meeting on the Economic and Social Impacts of Climate Change in the Caribbean [viewed]

This meeting is organized by the UN Economic Commission on Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and will bring together technical experts and government representatives of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries, Cuba and the Dominican Republic to examine the results of assessments of the economic and social impacts of climate change on the agriculture, coastal and marine, energy, health, tourism and water sectors in the Caribbean.
