UNFCCC Reports on Meeting on REDD+ Non-market-based Approaches [viewed]

UNFCCC18 September 2014: The Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has released the report of an in-session expert meeting on non-market-based approaches, such as joint mitigation and adaptation approaches for the integral and sustainable management of forests, to support the implementation of the activities referred to in COP Decision 1/CP.16, paragraph 70 (REDD+ activities).

Event: International Meeting of the Ecosystem-Based Adaptation Community of Practice [viewed]

The UN Environment Programme's (UNEP) Regional Gateway for Technology Transfer and Climate Change Action in Latin America and the Caribbean (REGATTA) and the facilitator of REGATTA's Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Community of Practice, Practical Action Latin America, are co-organizing this meeting of members of the EbA Community of Practice to strengthen the network, discuss regional experiences in EbA and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Habitat III PrepCom Recognizes Urbanization as Key to Sustainable Development [viewed]

UN-HABITAT18 September 2014: Participants called for inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements at the first Preparatory Committee for the 2016 UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III). They recognized Habitat III as an opportunity to create a coherent, integrated urban agenda and ensure urbanization's contribution to sustainable development, particularly within the context of the post-2015 development agenda.

Compliance Committee Releases Report for Lima [viewed]

UNFCCC17 September 2014: In preparation for the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 10), the Compliance Committee to the CMP has issued its ninth annual report to the CMP. The report (FCCC/KP/CMP/2014/2) summarizes the work of, and matters addressed by, the Committee during the period from 9 September 2013 to 5 September 2014.

Event: IV EUROCLIMA Seminar [viewed]

The fourth meeting of the EUROCLIMA Programme participants, which represents their first meeting since the Programme entered Phase II, will bring together EUROCLIMA national focal points, EU officials, and experts from associated organizations, namely the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and the Interamerican Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). The first day will be devoted to interaction with the Iberoamerican Network of Climate Change Offices (RIOCC), which is holding its 11th annual meeting in Lima, Peru, from 30 September-1 October. The second day will look at EUROCLIMA in the context of the EU's recently-approved Indicative Cooperation Programme for Latin America for 2014-2020, preparations for COP 20, plans for EUROCLIMA in the 2014-2016 period, and presentations on EUROCLIMA work at the national level. The third day will examine mainstreaming climate change into development policy, strategic mitigation and adaptation measures, and promoting capacity building and knowledge interchange.

LAC Officials Trained in Using Satellite Technology to Monitor Forests [viewed]

UN-REDD Programme4 September 2014: Sixteen Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries convened in a workshop to exchange experiences and provide training in the use of satellite technology to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the loss of forest carbon and to form a foundation for decisions regarding deforestation and forest degradation.
