Central America Makes Strides in Implementing Sendai Framework [viewed]

UNISDR20 June 2015: Central American countries are taking substantive steps to implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) 2015-2030, which was adopted in March 2015, at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Japan. The Framework calls for a holistic approach to the threat of disasters and for incorporating integrated disaster risk management (DRM) into existing national development priorities and policies.

UN-REDD Reports on 2014 Activities [viewed]

unreddJune 2015: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) released its 'Sixth Consolidated Annual Progress Report,' which covers the Programme's achievements in 2014. Overall, the report notes that in 2014, 56 countries participated as partner countries with US$47.8 million in funding allocated to activities in 2014.

ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment Highlights Financing Needs, Sendai Framework [viewed]

ecosoc-has19 June 2015: The 2015 Humanitarian Affairs Segment of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) adopted a resolution encouraging UN Member States to support climate change adaptation and strengthen early warning systems, welcoming the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) 2015-2030 and the holding of the first World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Turkey, in May 2016. It also called for integrating work on development and humanitarian issues.

RRI Dialogue Explores Links Among Forest Tenure, Restoration and Green Growth [viewed]

World Desertification Day 2015 Showcases Champions of Land Restoration [viewed]

wdcd201517 June 2015: The global observance event for the 2015 World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD), which took place in Milan, Italy, on 17 June as part of the ongoing UN EXPO Milano, featured high-level speakers, visual and verbal testimonies from community representatives and well-known personalities, and a live music show by the Senegalese band, Titi & Baribagass. The celebrations recognized the 2015 winners of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) 'Land for Life Award' and international short-writing and cartoon contests, as well as 34 new National Drylands Champions from Brazil and Portugal.

Multilateral Development Banks Report 19% Increase in Climate Finance [viewed]

mdbs-logos-pr-header16 June 2015: Six multilateral development banks (MDBs) have launched the fourth edition of their annual joint report on climate finance. The report finds that, in 2014, the MDBs committed more than US$28.35 billion in financing to developing countries and emerging economies, with US$23.28 billion dedicated to mitigation efforts, and US$5.07 billion to adaptation work.

Event: Central American Workshop on Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change [viewed]

The Interamerican Institute for Cooperation on Agricuture (IICA), the Central American Agriculture Council (CAC), the French Institute of Central America (IFAC), France's French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and UNEP co-organized the workshop "Perspective of Central America Toward COP21".
