Preliminary Report on UN-REDD Panama Programme Rupture Offers Recommendations [viewed]

unredd13 June 2013: The preliminary report by a team investigating the withdrawal of the National Coordinating Body of Indigenous Peoples in Panama (COONAPIP) from Panama's National REDD+ Programme has been delivered to the UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) along with recommendations on how to proceed in Panama and how to apply lessons learned from the experience to the design and implementation of REDD+ programmes elsewhere.

UN Poverty-Environment Initiative Deepens Efforts on Gender, Equality and Stakeholder Partnerships [viewed]

Event: Global Green Growth Forum in Latin America and the Caribbean [viewed]

At the invitation of Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos, Prime Minister of Denmark Helle Thorning-Schmidt, and Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) President Luis Alberto Moreno, leaders from government, business, finance, civil society and international organizations will convene at the first regional dialogue in Latin America of the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF LAC). The event, on the topic "Rethinking our energy future: Climate change and renewable energy in Latin America and the Caribbean," seeks to highlight the substantial renewable energy endowment available in the region and identify collaboration opportunities and concrete actions to transform Latin America's energy market. Participants are expected to include: Rajendra Pachauri, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC; Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC; Adnan Amin, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, IRENA; Pedro Joaquín Coldwell, Minister of Energy, Mexico; René Castro, Minister of Environment and Energy, Costa Rica; and heads of large electricity utilities, regulatory agencies, renewable energy institutions, and the private sector.

ITTO Announces Additional Funding for Forest Monitoring in the Amazon [viewed]

World Bank, GEF Support Sustainable Land Management in Chile [viewed]

World Bank - GEF7 June 2013: The World Bank approved a US$5.86 million grant to the Sustainable Land Management project in Chile, which is financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and aims to develop a national framework for sustainable land management (SLM) to combat land degradation, mainstream biodiversity into national policies, and protect forest carbon assets.

NAP Process Launched in LDCs [viewed]

UNFCCC9 June 2013: The Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG), with the support of the UNFCCC Secretariat and in collaboration with relevant organizations, organized the NAP Expo to catalyze the launch of the national adaptation plan (NAP) process at the national level in least developed countries (LDCs). The event promoted a common understanding of the NAP process by going through the NAP technical guidelines.

UN-HABITAT Showcases City Resilience Profiling Programme [viewed]

Unhabitat27 May 2013: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) highlighted its City Resilience Profiling Programme (CRPP) during a side event titled 'Building Safer and Resilient Cities and Settlements,' held at the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Geneva, Switzerland. CRPP aims to develop a comprehensive, integrated urban management and planning approach to monitor city risk resilience, including to climate change and multi-hazard catastrophic events.
