UNDP Armenia Reduces Carbon Footprint [viewed]

UNDP11 January 2012: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Armenia is undertaking measures to reduce the office's carbon footprint. In order to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the office is supporting a solar PV project for electricity generation, through the installation of a grid connected 10 kWt solar panels on their roof.

6 January 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report (FCCC/ARR/2011/CZE) of the individual review of the annual submission of the Czech Republic submitted in 2011, according to which, in 2009, carbon dioxide accounted for 84.9% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the Czech Republic.

UNFCCC Publishes Romania's Fifth National Communication [viewed]

UNFCCC3 January 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the fifth National Communication (NC5) of Romania (FCCC/IDR.5/ROU). Annex I Parties were requested, in accordance with decision 10/CP.13, to submit their NC5 to the Secretariat by 1 January 2010. This report presents the results of the in-depth review of Romania's NC5 conducted by an expert review team (ERT) in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Convention and the Kyoto Protocol.

Event: 38th Summit of the G8 [viewed]

The US will host the 38th Summit of the Group of Eight (G8) at Camp David, Maryland, in May 2012. The G8 comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Russian Federation, the UK, and the US. The meeting was originally scheduled to take place in Chicago, back-to-back with the NATO summit, but the US announced the change in location and dates on 5 March (http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/03/05/statement-press-secretary-g-8-and-nato-summits). The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will hold its summit in Chicago from 20-21 May (see http://www.chicagonato.org/ for more information). The Presidents Benin, Ghana and Tanzania and Prime Minister of Ethiopia are expected to join in the discussions on food security in Africa.
