Governments Advance Revision of Mediterranean Sustainable Development Strategy [viewed]

unep-map18 February 2015: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the France-based NGO Plan Bleu supported a regional conference in Malta, in which stakeholders and Parties to the Barcelona Convention reviewed a revised sustainable development strategy for the Mediterranean region. Participants considered six thematic areas of the revised Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSD): seas and coasts; natural resources; rural development and food; climate; sustainable cities; transition towards a green economy; and governance.

Member States Seek to "Break with the Past" in Post-2015 Declaration [viewed]

photo_post2015_in220 February 2015: The second session of the intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda focused on the declaration component of the outcome that will be adopted at the Summit of Heads of State and Government on the post-2015 development agenda in September 2015. A summary of the discussion will be produced by the Secretariat, for reference, while the “discussion document” circulated and discussed during the meeting remains “a document without status” but will assist in creating the zero draft of the Summit outcome, according to the Co-Facilitators.

gcos_ipcc_unfccc12 February 2015: The Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held a joint workshop, titled ‘Enhancing observations to support preparedness and adaptation in a changing climate – Learning from the IPCC 5th Assessment Report,' which aimed to enhance systematic observations and related capacity, especially in developing countries, in light of the detection of observed impacts, exposure and vulnerability to climate change, and in support of assessing the risks of climate change and adaptation planning.

The Communiqué expresses their full support to the G20-Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Project (BEPS), which aims to modernize international tax rules and tackle cross-border tax avoidance, and to the achievement of a successful outcome of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD3) “towards the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda.”

Event: Second Global Meeting of the Indigenous Peoples' Forum at IFAD [viewed]

The global meeting of the Indigenous Peoples' Forum at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will convene prior to the 38th session of IFAD's Governing Council. The meeting will focus on indigenous food systems and sustainable development. The Forum, which institutionalizes IFAD's consultation and dialogue with indigenous peoples' representatives at the national, regional and international levels, held its first global meeting in 2013. In preparation for the second Forum, regional workshops took place in late 2014 in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America.
