UNFCCC Publishes Kazakhstan's GHG Inventory Review Report [viewed]

UNFCCC11 September 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2011 annual submission of Kazakhstan (FCCC/ARR/2011/KAZ) that states that total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions decreased by 27% between 1990 and 2009.

EEA Publishes Technical Report on Production and Trade of Fluorinated GHG [viewed]

EEA11 September 2012: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has released a technical report on 120 companies' production and trade of fluorinated gases (F-gases), which have particularly high global warming potentials (GWPs). The report finds that, in 2011, production of F-gases decreased by 5%, while imports decreased by 6% from 2012.

EU Greenhouse Gas Emissions Fall by 2.5% in 2011 [viewed]

EEA7 September 2012: European Environment Agency (EEA) estimates show that EU greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions declined by 2.5% in 2011, in part due to a mild winter, which lowered heating demands, as well as to increased consumption of renewable energy.

UNECE Watercourses Convention Celebrates 20th Anniversary [viewed]

UNECE4 September 2012: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (UNECE Watercourses Convention), signed in 1992 in Helsinki, returned to that city to celebrate its 20th anniversary. A two-day meeting was held to reflect on the accomplishments of the Convention and contemplate its future as it is readied to allow accession to the Convention by UN members outside the UNECE.

Nordic Council of Ministers Paper Calls for Increasing Efficiency of UNFCCC Negotiations [viewed]

16 August 2012: A paper released by the Nordic Council of Ministers assesses the “state-of-play” of ongoing negotiations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and identifies proposals for improved efficiency in the process. The paper explores the organization of work and strategic oversight of the UNFCCC, decision making processes and processes outside of the UNFCCC.
