Unhabitat27 May 2013: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) highlighted its City Resilience Profiling Programme (CRPP) during a side event titled 'Building Safer and Resilient Cities and Settlements,' held at the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in Geneva, Switzerland. CRPP aims to develop a comprehensive, integrated urban management and planning approach to monitor city risk resilience, including to climate change and multi-hazard catastrophic events.

World Bank Highlights Little Green Data Book's Relevance to Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

World Bank5 June 2013: The World Bank has released the 2013 edition of the 'Little Green Data Book,' the Bank's annual compilation of environment data. The Book assesses development and environment using over 50 indicators, including adjusted net savings (ANS), which aims to foster innovative ways of understanding sustainable development at the macroeconomic level, and to complement gross domestic product (GDP) measuring; both of which are key aspects of the post-2015 agenda.

UNFCCC Releases SBSTA Documents for Bonn Session [viewed]

UNFCCC4 June 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a series of documents that will be discussed by the Subsidiary Body on Scientific and technical Advice (SBSTA) at its 38th session, taking place in Bonn, Germany. The documents relate to methodological issues related to the Kyoto Protocol, the new market-based mechanism, emissions from international transport, the UNFCCC reporting guidelines, high-carbon reservoirs, and a framework for various approaches.

World Bank Maps Carbon Pricing Initiatives, Recommends Gradual Development [viewed]

World Bank29 May 2013: The World Bank has released a report, titled 'Mapping Carbon Pricing Initiatives: Developments and Prospects,' which provides an overview of current and prospective carbon pricing initiatives at the international, regional, national and sub-national levels. The report recommends flexibility in carbon pricing, alignment with national priorities, a staged approach for the introduction of new initiatives, and carefully timing the construction of linkages between emissions trading schemes.

UNESCO Outlines Best Practices of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves [viewed]

UNEP Launches Global Sustainable Consumption and Production Clearinghouse [viewed]

The Clearinghouse uses social networking principles to create a “one-stop hub” for SCP knowledge and cooperation.

Event: Pacific Climate Change Roundtable 2013 [viewed]

The Pacific Climate Change Roundtable (PCCR) was established to coordinate climate change dialogue and networking in the region. PCCR also facilitates linking global and regional stakeholders with the national and community levels. It is expected to host over 100 participants from across the region and internationally and to focus on building resilience to climate change through collaboration. PCCR is coordinated by SPREP in partnership with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the University of the South Pacific (USP) with funding provided by Switzerland, the European Union Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA /SPC- PSIS) project, AusAID, the British Government and Germany's International Cooperation agency (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ). The Pacific Climate Change Roundtable will be held alongside the Pacific Meteorological Council (1-5 July) and before the Joint Meeting of the Pacific Platform for Disaster Risk Management and the Pacific Climate Change Round Table (8-11 July 2013).

EEA Study Highlights Green Growth Benefits of Environmental Tax Reform [viewed]

EEA14 May 2013: According to a series of studies that the European Environment Agency (EEA) undertook on the potential for fiscal reform in Spain, Italy, Ireland and Portugal - EU countries affected by the current economic crisis - environmental taxes can achieve environmental objectives while raising revenues and they have a "less negative effect on GDP compared to other types of taxes, such as direct taxes."

Adaptation Fund Calls for Comments on Project Proposals [viewed]

The project concepts and proposals will be considered at the 21st meeting of the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) to be held in Bonn, Germany, from 1-4 July 2013.
