WMO: 2014 on Track to be Europe's Warmest Year on Record [viewed]

Wmo17 December 2014: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has reported that analysis of European temperature data from January through November 2014 confirms that 2014 will almost certainly be Europe's warmest year on record. A new analysis of European temperature records dating back to the 1500s estimates the January-December annual mean temperature to be .3°C above the previous record set in 2007.

IEA Projects 2.1% Annual Growth in Coal Demand through 2019 [viewed]

IEA15 December 2014: The 2014 Medium-Term Coal Market Report, published by the International Energy Agency (IEA), finds that coal demand will continue to grow at an average annual rate of 2.1% until 2019. China is expected to account for three-fifths of that demand, while modest declines in coal consumption in the US and EU will be offset by growth in India's demand, according to the report.

UNECE Region Adopts Framework to Reduce Air Pollution from Agriculture [viewed]

UNECE12 December 2014: Parties to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) have adopted an ‘Ammonia Framework Code' to help countries reduce ammonia emissions from agriculture, which threaten human health, causing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Atmospheric ammonia, a major contributor to air pollution, also leads to acidification and excessive nutrient loading, resulting in biodiversity loss in many of the most vulnerable ecosystems.
