Event: Eighth Round of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) Negotiations [viewed]

The EU and US will continue talks on agreeing to a trade and investment deal known as the 'Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)'. TTIP is expected to have implications for the manufacturing (including energy), agriculture, and services, investment and public procurement sectors. The Partnership is also being designed to add and update rules, including those affecting sustainable development.

Event: Second European Climate Change Adaptation Conference [viewed]

The Second biannual European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA), organized by three European research projects, Base, Ramses and ToPDad, with European stakeholders, will take place from 12-14 May in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference will focus on a wide range of issues related to climate change adaptation under the theme 'Integrating Climate Adaptation Action in Science, Policy, Practice and Business'. The event will be comprised of different types of sessions aiming to combine scientific and practical knowledge, policy-making processes, and business cases, including: sessions focusing on latest research results; dialogues on costs and benefits, strategies, and implementation; and events for facilitating public-private partnerships and identifying business opportunities. The other conference organizing partners are the Confederation of Danish Industry, the European Commission, City of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the Danish Ministry of the Environment.

Al Gore Receives ZFEP Lifetime Achievement Award [viewed]

Zayed Future19 January 2015: Former US Vice President Al Gore has received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Zayed Future Energy Prize (ZFEP) for his “personal and political commitment to raise international awareness about the dangers of climate change, while reinforcing optimism that the global community can and will successfully tackle the challenge.” His Highness General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, presented Gore with the award during a ceremony held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2015.

WCRP Launches Polar Challenge [viewed]

WCRPlogo16 January 2015: The World Climate Research Program (WCRP) is launching a Polar Challenge to reward the first team able to send an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) for a 2,000 kilometer mission under the Arctic or Antarctic sea-ice. The challenge will address under-ice navigation, endurance and environmental monitoring. It aims to stimulate the development of a monitoring tool for the Polar regions and expand scientific research capabilities and climate services.

IOM, Sciences Po Assess Migration, Environment and Climate Change Nexus [viewed]

The report seeks to raise awareness on the effects of climate change on the livelihoods of vulnerable populations.

Cities in Central Asia, Caucasus Join UNISDR Resilient Campaign [viewed]

UNISDR12 January 2015: Eight cities in Central Asia and the Caucasus have joined the UN campaign, ‘Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready,' which includes over 2,400 participants worldwide. The eight cities are: Noyemberyan and Berd in Armenia; Tbilisi and Gori in Georgia; Oskemen and Ridder in Kazakhstan; and Bishkek and Kara-Kol in Kyrgyzstan. By joining the campaign, the cities commit to strengthen community resilience by integrating disaster risk reduction (DRR) into local policies.

Event: Critical Infrastructure Protection and Resilience Europe 2015 [viewed]

The second Critical Infrastructure Protection and Resilience Europe conference, taking place from 4-5 March 2015, in The Hague, the Netherlands, will focus on securing Europe's critical infrastructure. The event is aimed at stakeholders from industry, operators, agencies and governments. The conference will feature a presentation on the European Commission's Copernicus Project, which is developing an autonomous, multi-level operational Earth observation capacity.

Event: Les Assises du Vivant 2015: Biodiversity and Climate Change in Interaction [viewed]

This 2015 edition of the Les Assises du Vivant dialogues of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will bring together scientists, civil society and other stakeholders to discuss the links between biodiversity and climate change in the run-up to the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The event, titled 'Biodiversity and Climate Change in Interaction: Creating new life possibilities,' will focus on three themes, namely: rethinking conservation - towards 'no regrets' strategies; developing ecological solidarity and environmental justice by 'teaming up' with the rest of the living world; and doing business differently by articulating performance and resilience.
