LPAA Launches 5-Year Vision for Climate Action by Cities, Regions [viewed]

lpaa8 December 2015: The Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), a partnership of governments and the UN, launched a five-year vision aiming to strengthen action on climate change by cities and regions, on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference. The LPAA is led jointly by the Governments of Peru and France, the Office of the UN Secretary-General, and the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

cop217 December 2015: The COP 21 ministerial week opened in Paris, France, beginning with the joint COP/CMP high-level segment, a contact group on JI meeting under the CMP, minister-led informal consultations under the Paris Committee on "support: MOI (finance, technology and capacity building),” as well as a meeting of the Committee itself, and bilaterals conducted by co-facilitators on: acceleration of pre-2020 action; ambition, including long-term goals and periodic review; differentiation, in particular with regard to mitigation, finance and transparency; and “support: MOI (finance, technology and capacity building).”

Coalition Announces US$80 Million for Climate Risk Early Warning Systems [viewed]

cop212 December 2015: A coalition of countries and international organizations including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the World Bank's Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) launched the Climate Risk Early Warning Systems (CREWS) initiative, in order to: strengthen support for early warning systems in vulnerable countries; protect and shelter populations exposed to extreme climate events; and mobilize additional financing.

These initiatives include: the Paris Pact on Water and Adaptation, MegaCities Coalition on Water; Business Alliance for Water and Climate Change; Adaptation of the West African coastal areas; and Maritime Regions in Action against Climate Change.
