UNEP Climate Change Adaptation in the Alpine Space Project Completes Work [viewed]

Silva Mediterranea Newsletter Highlights PES and REDD Activities [viewed]

FAO21 September 2011: Silva Mediterranea, a statutory body of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) that works on forest issues in the Mediterranean region, has released the September 2011 issue of its newsletter, which reports on recent forest-related activities within the Mediterranean region, including a regional conference on payments of ecosystem services (PES) and a project on REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks).

Event: Official Opening of the IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) [viewed]

This event marks the opening of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) upon the occasion of its inauguration of the IITC. This office in Bonn, Germany, is to compliment the work of IRENA's headquarters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), by working towards a framework for renewable energy technology support, as well as cost reduction potentials and policies to support innovation and increased use of standards. The event on 7 October will consist of an opening ceremony and panel discussion titled "Towards the Age of Renewables." The event will be attended by high-level government and international organization representatives, and will be open to the press. On 6 October, a pre-inauguration workshop on renewables competitiveness and innovation will be held. Event: CLIMALPTOUR-Climate Change and its Impact on Tourism in the Alpine Space [viewed]

This conference will provide an overview of the CLIMALPTOUR Project, which aims to make Alpine centers an interesting destination in all seasons and to increase their potential even if snow is lacking. Project partners, which include the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), are working together to find out concrete adaptation strategies that can be used by civil services and stakeholders to face this new situation and go beyond the traditional vision of winter sports.
