30 March 2011: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is set to approve a US$500 million loan to Indonesia to set up three geothermal power plants with a total capacity of 165 megawatts.
30 March 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published seven submissions from parties (FCCC/AWGLCA/2011/MISC.6) on views on the issues relating to the a work programme for the development of modalities and guidelines listed in decisions 1/CP.16, paragraph 46, including with respect to the initial scheduling of the processes described in chapter III.A (Enhanced action on mitigation. Nationally appropriate mitigation commitments or actions (NAMAs) by developed country Parties) of the decision.
The ECW will bring together GEF focal points from Asian countries, focal points from the main Conventions (Biodiversity, Desertification, Climate Change and POPs), representatives from civil society and representatives from GEF agencies. The purpose of the meeting is to keep these stakeholders abreast of GEF strategies, policies and procedures and to encourage coordination.
22 March 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released a report titled "Urban Water Vulnerability to Climate Change in Mongolia," which predicts continued dramatic climate change in Mongolia over the next century, including more snow in winter and less rain in summer.
This international workshop is hosted by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) with the Indonesian National Poverty Commission and Ministry of Agriculture. It will convene researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore opportunities for building resiliency against growing food security risks that confront many countries in Southeast Asia. IFPRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
24 March 2011: The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Government of Thailand have concluded a project that assisted hotels in reducing their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy costs through energy-saving technologies.
22 March 2011: The World Bank approved a US$13.4 million grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to provide technical assistance and capacity building to improve the quality and sustainability of energy efficiency programmes in three Chinese provinces.
22 March 2011: The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy of the Republic of Korea have signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation and identify joint projects and activities in the fields of green growth technology and low-carbon industrial development.
11 March 2011: The UN Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development of Afghanistan, has launched projects expected to provide clean water-driven energy to more than 6,200 households in rural and remote parts of Afghanistan.
21 March 2011: Nineteen forest policies from 16 countries have been nominated for this year's Future Policy Award, which is granted by The World Future Council in collaboration with the Secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF).
