10 May 2011: At the International Wildland Fire Conference in Sun City, South Africa, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) released a preliminary report titled “Findings and Implications from a Coarse-Scale Global Assessment of Recent Selected Mega-Fires.” The report suggests that changing climate may be exacerbating the growing number of mega-fires and resulting in a positive feedback loop.
10 May 2011: During the third round of the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, held from 9-10 May 2011, the two sides discussed bilateral, regional and global issues, including cooperation on climate change, energy and fisheries.
9 May 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) have released a report titled “Why a Green Economy Matters for Least Developed Countries.”
13 April 2011: The workshop on "NAMAs as Catalysts of Environmentally Sustainable Transport" was hosted by the Korean Transport Institute, and organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the Partnership for Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT), and the Bridging the Gap Initiative, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 12-13 April 2011.
April 2011: In preparation for the Fourth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC IV) taking place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 9-13 May 2011, the International Labour Organization (ILO) released a report titled "Growth, Employment and Decent Work in the Least Developed Countries."
13 April 2011: A workshop on Financing Sustainable Urban Transport in the Asia-Pacific Region was held from 11-13 April 2011, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for over 20 cities.
5 May 2011: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has registered its 3000th project, a wind power project in Inner Mongolia, China.
3 May 2011: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has published the latest issue of its UNCCD News publication. Issue 3.1 reviews the outcomes of the second special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-2) and the ninth session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 9), which took place in February 2011, in Bonn, Germany, and reviews China's anti-drought measures, among other topics.
3 May 2011: Addressing the Astana Economic Forum in Kazakhstan, Jacques Diouf, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), highlighted food insecurity in a number of Central Asian countries and stressed the need to strengthen cooperation on trade.
2 May 2011: The Third Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Follow-up Meeting, which convened in Dakar, Senegal, from 1-2 May 2011, addressed economic development, climate change and low-carbon growth, and sustainable development in Africa.
