WHO, UNISDR Call for Integrating Health in DRR [viewed]

unisdr-who11 March 2016: The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have called on national disaster management agencies to include health emergencies in their preparedness and response plans alongside earthquakes, floods and storms. The call was made during the International Conference on the Implementation of the Health Aspects of the Sendai Framework for DRR 2015-2030, which brought together over 300 representatives from 54 governments, the health and disaster risk fields, and international and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

ESCAP Spotlights Rising Urban Disasters in Asia-Pacific [viewed]

UNESCAP10 March 2016: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) has published a report that calls for urgent action to tackle increasing urban disasters in the Asia-Pacific region. The report, titled 'Disasters in Asia and the Pacific: 2015 Year in Review,' warns that the region's cities, with their growing population, depleted ecological buffers and outdated urban infrastructure, may not be equipped to tackle urban disasters.

Partnership on Mitigation and MRV9 March 2016: The International Partnership on Mitigation and MRV has reported that several developing countries, including Mexico and Viet Nam, have started planning for the implementation of their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) under the UNFCCC, with support from their developed country partners. In addition, the Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) has been working closely with developing country policymakers, most recently in Latin America, to identify ways to "convert INDCs into action."

Event: G20 Energy Ministers Meeting [viewed]

The Energy Ministers Meeting under the Group of 20 (G20) Chinese Presidency will take place from 29-30 June, in Beijing, China. Sustainable energy issues on the Chinese Presidency's agenda include advancing the implementation of the G20 Principles of Energy Collaboration and strengthening cooperation on energy access, renewable energy and energy efficiency. The G20 is an international forum for the governments and central bank governors from 20 major economies. It includes the European Union (EU), which is represented by the European Commission and the European Central Bank, and 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the UK and the US.
