Event: UNESCO Expert Meeting on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development in the Arab States [viewed]

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is hosting this meeting to explore the challenges that climate change is posing and will pose to education systems in the Arab region. Given the weather extremes that affect Arab countries, especially with the onset of climate change, UNESCO envisions a robust role for education in adaptation and mitigation. Recommendations formulated at the meeting will inform UNESCO's work in the region under its Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development.

ciat_ccafs4 May 2015: The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), under the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), has published a study, titled ‘Projected Shifts in Coffea arabica Suitability among Major Global Producing Regions Due to Climate Change.' The study focuses on how, by 2050, climate change will affect climatic suitability for Arabica coffee within current production regions.

ASEAN Commits to Efficient Lighting [viewed]

logo_asean_unep28 April 2015: A commitment announced by member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the 19th annual meeting of the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Sub-Sector Network (EE&C-SSN) could slash electricity consumption by 35 terawatt hours (TWh) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 20 million tons annually, according to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). Under the commitment, ASEAN members will switch to high efficiency lighting solutions.
