October Update on Doha Amendment Ratification [viewed]

UNFCCC5 October 2015: Since 18 August 2015, the UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Algeria, Bhutan, Hungary, Madagascar, Panama, Samoa, Switzerland and Thailand have accepted the Doha Amendment, which formalizes commitments for the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol (2013-2020). These announcements bring the total number of Parties that have deposited their instruments of acceptance to 49.

IEA Reports Accelerated Growth of Renewables [viewed]

IEA2 October 2015: The International Energy Agency (IEA) launched a report, titled ‘Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report 2015,' which assesses market trends for renewable energy in the electricity, transport and heating sectors. The report also identifies drivers and challenges to renewables' deployment and projects their growth through 2020. The report, launched during the G20 Energy Ministers Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, on 2 October 2015, further assesses potential impacts of enhanced policy actions under an accelerated case for renewable power.

September 2015 Sustainable Energy Finance Update [viewed]

UNFCCC Reports on Submission and Review of Sixth National Communications, Biennial Reports [viewed]

UNFCCC30 September 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a note outlining the status of submission and review of sixth national communications (NC6) and first biennial reports (BR1) (FCCC/SBI/2015/INF.9). At the time of the note's preparation, the Secretariat had received national communications from all 43 Annex I Parties and Kazakhstan. Twenty-six Parties submitted them before the due date of 1 January 2014, while 17 and Kazakhstan made their submissions after the due date.

UNFCCC1 October 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that San Marino, Samoa, the Philippines, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Thailand, Argentina, Mozambique, India, Belize, Botswana and Sierra Leone have formally submitted their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs), bringing the total number of Parties to have done so to 148.

The event brought together 136 Heads of State and Government, ministers, business leaders, and members of civil society, with many leaders highlighting the importance of reaching a strong, global climate agreement at the upcoming 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Event: Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2015 [viewed]

The 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) will take place in Malta, under the theme ‘Adding Global Value,' to discuss using the Commonwealth's strengths in international politics to influence and effect change on critical global issues. The meeting will take place in various historical venues around the country, while the Heads of Government retreat will be held at Fort St. Angelo. The CHOGM will hear views of the people of the Commonwealth through youth, women, business and civil society forums. The CHOGM is held every two years and is the Commonwealth's highest consultative and policy-making body.
