UNFCCC Publishes Views on Appeals Against CDM Executive Board Decisions [viewed]

21 April 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published submissions (FCCC/SBI/2011/MISC.2) from parties, intergovernmental organizations and admitted observer organizations, regarding their views on procedures and institutional arrangements under the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP) to allow for appeals against the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) decisions based on decision 2/CMP.5, paragraph 42, taking into account the recommendations of the Executive Board contained in annex II to its annual report.

ASB and IISD Develop Platform for South-South Exchange on REDD+ [viewed]

FAO Releases Publications on Forestry in Asia-Pacific Region [viewed]

April 2011: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released reports on forests and forestry in the Asia-Pacific region, looking forward to 2020, and including subregional reports and analyses for Southeast Asia, East Asia, the Pacific and the Greater Mekong. An additional report examines "Forest policies, legislation and institutions in Asia and the Pacific. Trends and emerging needs for 2020."

Event: Stakeholder Meeting to Develop an Action Plan on Forests and the Green Economy [viewed]

The Forestry and Timber Section of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), is organizing a meeting with stakeholders across the UNECE region (Western and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North America) to discuss the development of an action plan on forests and the green economy. Discussion will focus on: Sustainable Wood Consumption and Production; Low-carbon Forest Sector; Valuation of and Payments for Ecosystem Services; Monitoring and Governance; and Green Jobs. The action plan, once finalized, will be reviewed by the UNECE Timber Committee and FAO European Forestry Commission at their joint session, scheduled from 10-14 October 2011 in Antalya, Turkey. It will then be presented as a regional sectoral example at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) in June 2012.

World Bank Study Highlights Growth Potential for China's Electric Vehicles Industry [viewed]

20 April 2011: A new World Bank study, titled "The China New Energy Vehicles Program: Challenges and Opportunities," estimates that the growth of electric vehicles over the next 10 years is expected to be significant, with industry forecasts suggesting that global plug-in vehicle sales will contribute between 2-25% of new vehicle sales by 2025.
