Event: New Nile Perspectives: Scientific Advances in the Eastern Nile Basin [viewed]

Given developments in the Nile River basin, including the emergence of a new riparian State, the Ministry of Water Resources and Electricity, Sudan, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) – Institute for Water Education (IHE), the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and others, are convening participants to discuss water cooperation. The conference will address, inter alia: new Nile projects and politics; new Nile hydrology, morphology and climate change; new Nile land and water use and livelihoods; new Nile economics and optimization; and new Nile futures – institutionalizing interdependencies. IWMI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

Event: 14th Meeting of the BASIC Group [viewed]

The 14th meeting of the BASIC Group -- Brazil, South Africa, India and China -- will meet in Chennai, India, from 15-16 February, to discuss climate change related issues, including how to take forward the decisions taken at the Doha Climate Change Conference. The group meets four times a year, once in each of the BASIC countries by rotation. The BASIC Group also invites representatives of other countries from the Group of 77/China.

FAO, OECD Releases Workshop Report on Agricultural Adaptation to Climate Change [viewed]

FAO Launches Policy Guide and Learning Event on Advancing Agroforestry [viewed]

FAO5 February 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the first in a series of working papers on agroforestry. The guide, titled "Advancing Agroforestry on the Policy Agenda," is aimed at decision makers, NGOs and government agencies to promote the integration of agroforestry into national strategies.

UN-REDD Releases Policy Brief on Safeguards [viewed]

Event: WACDEP 4th Technical Coordination Workshop [viewed]

The Global Water Partnership – Southern Africa (GWP-SA) will be hosting this 4th Water, Climate and Development Programme for Africa (WACDEP) Technical Coordination Workshop in Pretoria, South Africa. The workshop aims at strengthening the exchange of lessons, knowledge sharing and technical coordination of WACDEP implementation among the GWP regions. Expected participants include GWP partners from all participating regions and key stakeholders from the water and climate change sector, namely the African Minsters' Council on Water (AMCOW), ministries, development banks and NGOs. The WACDEP programme is an initiative of AMCOW and involves the major African organizations with competencies in water.
