21 March 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a report, titled “State of Mediterranean Forests 2013,” which details the social and environmental changes affecting forests in the Mediterranean region, as well as the contributions that forests make to agriculture, water, energy, tourism and other economic sectors.
14 March 2013: The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and the Clean Energy Ministerial's (CEM) Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) initiative have begun implementing activities under a partnership to develop a regional system of energy efficiency standards and labels for appliances.
15 March 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the submissions of parties on their views and recommendations on elements to be taken into account in the fifth review of the financial mechanism (FCCC/CP/2013/MISC.1).
February 2013: In preparation for the third Mediterranean Forest Week (III MFW), the Strategic Framework on Mediterranean Forests (SFMF) has been released.
14 March 2013: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has completed a three-day Expanded Capacity Workshop (ECW) for the West African Sahel, bringing together focal points from the GEF, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
6 March 2013: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) has announced the launch of a new small island developing States community based adaption (SIDS-CBA) project in Seychelles. The project will work with coastal communities to address adaptation to coastal erosion and salinity from saltwater intrusion into agricultural lands.
March 2013: The January-February issue of the African Development Bank's (AfDB) Climate Finance newsletter highlights the publication of a report, titled "Financing Change: The AfDB and CIF for a Climate-Smart Africa," which documents the Bank's work in implementing its Climate Investment Funds (CIF) portfolio.
The Fifth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD V) is being convened under the theme "Hand in Hand for a More Dynamic Africa". Discussions are expected to be focused around four main topics: economic growth; achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); consolidation of peace/ good governance; and climate change. TICAD V is organized by Government of Japan, the UN Office of the Special Advisor to Africa, the World Bank, and the African Union (AU).
14 March 2013: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has launched the 2013 Human Development Report (HDR), titled “The Rise of the South: Human Progress in a Diverse World.”
13 March 2013: African Ministers for science and technology from approximately 20 countries, along with researchers and entrepreneurs, attended the "African Conference on the Strategic Importance of Intellectual Property Policies to Foster Innovation, Value Creation and Competitiveness" to discuss how developing countries can boost their national innovation strategies and address key global challenges such as health, food security and climate change.
