January 2014 Water Finance Update [viewed]

World Bank AFDB21 January 2014: The World Bank, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) made a number of investments in the water and sanitation sector in January 2014, including in Albania, Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Madagascar, the Russian Federation, Togo and Viet Nam, for projects aimed at improving basic urban services, providing rural access to water supply and sanitation, expanding hydromet systems to monitor hydrological information, and improve the climate resilience of irrigated agriculture and water supply and sanitation services, among others.

Event: IRENA Africa Clean Energy Corridor High-Level Meeting [viewed]

This ministerial meeting is being convened to consider an Action Agenda for the Africa Clean Energy Corridor, an initiative launched at the third session of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly in January 2013, with the objective of developing clean, indigenous, cost-effective renewable power to support Africa's economic development. The Ministerial Round Table will discuss: benefits of the Africa Clean Energy Corridor; countries' views on the opportunity to move to a renewable energy future; key challenges that countries will face in making the transition; whether countries are fully equipped to use their renewables resource potential; and whether the concept of the Africa Clean Energy Corridor provides the necessary elements to enable renewable energy transition.

UN-REDD, Kenya Assess REDD+ Corruption Risk [viewed]

UN-REDD Programme14 January 2014: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation (UN-REDD) has reported that Kenya's Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources has launched 'A Corruption Risk Assessment for REDD+ in Kenya.' The study was conducted by the Anti-Corruption Resource Centre (U4) with the support of the UN-REDD Programme with engagement of Kenya's Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission.

Event: Second High Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership [viewed]

The second High Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), jointly organized by the Government of Ethiopia and the African Union Commission (AUC), will gather African and European Ministers, AU and European Union (EU) Commissioners, and other high-level policy-makers, international organizations, the private sector, academia, and civil society to discuss Africa-EU cooperation on energy and foster further commitments and action on the energy challenges facing the two continents. The High Level Meeting will take place from 12-13 February 2014, and a business exhibition showcasing technologies for overcoming Africa's energy challenges will take place at the same venue from 11-13 February 2014.

ICRAF Publication Notes Need for Research on Agroforestry Benefits [viewed]

UNDP Releases Gender and Climate Change Knowledge Products for Asia-Pacific [viewed]

UNDP10 December 2013: The UN Development Programme released a series of thematic policy briefs and training modules on climate change and gender for the Asia-Pacific region. The series includes five policy briefs and five training modules, each on: an overview of linkages between gender and climate change; gender and adaptation; gender and disaster risk reduction (DRR); gender and energy; and gender and climate finance.

CGIAR Explores Participatory Action in East African Agricultural Carbon Projects [viewed]
