IISD, Nordic Ministers Project GHG Reductions from Fossil Fuel Subsidies Reform [viewed]

norden_publication22 October 2015: A new report looking at potential impacts of fossil fuel subsidy reform (FFSR) in 20 countries estimates that reform could bring an average reduction in national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 10.92% by 2020, and an annual average savings of US$92.83 per tonne of GHG emissions removed. The emission cuts could increase, the report finds, to 18.15% if 30% of the savings from fossil fuel subsidy cuts are reinvested into energy efficiency and renewables from 2016-2025.

Event: FCPF Participants Assembly and Participants Committee Meeting [viewed]

Organized by the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF), the twentieth meeting of the Participants Committee is expected to address the readiness package of Costa Rica and mid-term progress reports with requests for additional funding by Chile, Mozambique and Nepal. Religious Leaders Urge Ambitious Climate Agreement [viewed]

UN Assistant Secretary-General, Lenni Montiel, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), who introduced several reports of the UN Secretary-General, said sustainable development is not confined to one item on the Committee's agenda; instead, the Committee should consider all issues before it through the lens of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

OECD Urges Enhanced Mitigation Action [viewed]

OECD_NEW20 October 2015: The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published an analysis of climate change mitigation policies in 44 countries, which finds that governments in these countries must significantly enhance their climate change policies in order to realize their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) and achieve the goal of limiting the temperature rise to 2°C above pre-industrial levels.
