UNDP Highlights Links between Poverty Reduction and Adaptation [viewed]

Undp13 October 2015: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has published a report that showcases the experiences and knowledge generated through the various UNDP initiatives on adaptation, and how countries have been working on national initiatives to transition to green, inclusive, climate-resilient development paths. The report, titled 'Empowering the Poor: Experience from UNDP supported Initiatives on Adaptation,' features 12 case studies that illustrate that adaptation and poverty reduction are inherently linked and must be addressed simultaneously.

SIDS DOCK Treaty Enters into Force [viewed]

sidsdock30 September 2015: A treaty establishing the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Sustainable Energy and Climate Resilience Initiative – SIDS DOCK - entered into force on 30 September 2015, with a ceremony at UN Headquarters featuring the official handover of instruments of ratification by the first 11 contracting Parties: Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, the Cook Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles and Tuvalu. By the treaty, SIDS DOCK is established as an intergovernmental organization - the first global intergovernmental organization of island nations, according to a press release.

Second Committee Debates Priorities for 70th Session [viewed]

unga709 October 2015: The UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Second Committee (Economic and Financial) held its General Debate for the 70th Session, focusing on the Committee's contribution to the implementation of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA). There was also general consensus that the Committee should reinforce the need for a strong and meaningful outcome at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), taking place in Paris, France, in December 2015.

Finance Ministers of the 'Vulnerable Twenty' Launch Founding Communiqué [viewed]

v208 October 2015: The Finance Ministers of 20 countries, representing nearly 700 million people threatened by climate change, announced a series of actions to strengthen climate resilience and low-emission development domestically and globally. In their statement, the Ministers of the 'Vulnerable Twenty' (V20), commit to collective and decisive action, including by promoting the mobilization of climate finance, sharing best practices and engaging in joint actions.

IPCC-42 Concludes with Election of New Bureau [viewed]

Hoesung_Lee8 October 2015: The 42nd session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-42) convened from 5-8 October 2015, in Dubrovnik, Croatia, bringing together 424 delegates from 136 countries. The meeting focused on the election of members of the IPCC Bureau and the Task Force Bureau (TFB), including the IPCC Chair, IPCC Vice-Chairs, Co-Chairs of the Working Groups (WGs) and TFB, Vice-Chairs of the WGs and TFB members. An informal session, hosted by the Croatian Government, provided the candidates for IPCC Chair with a forum to present themselves to delegates.

UNFCCC Reports on African Region Training on BURs Preparation [viewed]

UNFCCC8 October 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a report, titled 'Progress report on the work of the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention: report on the training workshop for the African region on the preparation of biennial update reports (BURs)' (FCCC/SBI/2015/17). The report was published in advance of the 43rd session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), which will meet in Paris, France, during the period from 30 November to 11 December 2015.

REN21, UNIDO Publish Report on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Southern Africa [viewed]

IRENA REmap 2030 for Africa Finds High Growth Potential for Renewables [viewed]
