31 March 2011: The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in partnership with the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), has created a multimedia project to exhibit pioneer actions implemented by small island developing States (SIDS) in the face of climate change and rising sea levels.
30 March 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published three further submissions (FCCC/AWGLCA/2011/MISC.2/Add.1) from Cuba, Egypt and Tuvalu on views on the elaboration of market-based mechanisms.
Event: CBD Sub-regional Capacity-building Workshop for West Africa on Implementation of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas [viewed]
The objective of the workshop is to build capacity to: create a national action plan for implementation of the Programme of Work on Protected Areas; access funding based on these action plans; and strengthen implementation of the Programme of Work on the themes of governance, climate change (including integrating protected areas into the wider land and seascape), sustainable financing, and valuation of the costs and benefits of protected areas, with a focus on marine protected areas where applicable.
29 March 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union (AU) have published the 2011 Economic Report on Africa, titled “Governing Development in Africa: The Role of the State in Economic Transformation.”
22 March 2011: The African Rice Center (AfricaRice) has taken on the lead role for Africa in the Global Rice Science Partnership (GRiSP), a new research programme of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
25 March 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published a supplementary provisional agenda (FCCC/AWGLCA/2011/1/Add.1) for the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) at its 14th session, which will take place from 5-8 April 2011, in Bangkok, Thailand, and 6-17 June 2011, in Bonn, Germany.
8 March 2011: The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) held a one-day workshop on climate change in Ethiopia with the Climate Change Forum-Ethiopia on 8 March 2011, at the campus of the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Addis Ababa.
22 March 2011: World Water Day 2011 (WWD 2011) convened in Cape Town, South Africa, on 22 March 2011, under the theme “Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge.”
21 March 2011: Nineteen forest policies from 16 countries have been nominated for this year's Future Policy Award, which is granted by The World Future Council in collaboration with the Secretariats of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the UN Forum on Forests (UNFF).
